The Western Lands

Growing strong.

The Western lands are the richest region in Eidos and also serve as home to Aslod, the seat of power of The Chantry. While few in number, the hills and mountains of the Western lands are riddled with veins of gold and silver, the mining of which has made its rulers immensely rich; the abundance of iron also allows them to easily forge weapons and military equipment for their armies and for The Spell-Breakers. The rest of the region is dominated by the sprawling Windsong Woods, the domain of the elves, who have tended to them for thousands of years and now continue to do so with the blessing of the Chantry.

Geography

The main-land of the Westerlands consists of a landscape of heavily forested hills and valleys stretching from the well-watered Farnfell River in the north, to the sea in the west and south, and to the fertile plains of The Staldor Empire to the east. In contrast to this, the island upon which Aslod is located as well as the whole western coast are peppered by mountains rich in minerals.
The Westernlands most notable landmark is the home of the elves: The Windsong Woods, the biggest and thickest forest in all of Eidos, it's history predating any written records.

Fauna & Flora

The region is blessed with the biggest forest in all of Eidos, whose saplings are believed to have originated from The Lifewood and thus posses a certain aura of magic that makes it seem like the trees have a mind of their own...
The creatures of the Western Lands tend to have a natural connection to nature magics in a way those from other geographical regions do not. This is due to the persistent nature and presence of nature magic in Elvish territory. Those creatures not native to Elvish forests tend to lack this connection.
A creature reasonably uncommon but quite popular in the Western Lands is the Spotted Slime Feline, informally nicknamed the Kitterpillar. Whilst its skin is relatively slimy it has thick tufts of fur around its neck, upper spine and tail. It lacks any limbs, instead shuffling along forest floors and grassy plains like a caterpillar. Its cute felinid face and harmless disposition as a mostly vegetarian (though occasionally carnivorous on small insects) creature make it a popular pet in the region, and Kitterpillars are also often moved around Eidos as quite exotic pets. As with most creatures from Elven territory they have a natural communion with nature magics that makes druids and the like able to communicate with them to a limited extent.
Another beast to be found in the region is the centaur, though very few remain alive to this day as they have been hunted to near extinction in other parts of the world.

Natural Resources

Aside from the gold, silver and iron the western lands are are home to the Petricite forest surrounding the city of Aslod. The coastal towns provide much of the region with fresh fish while the elves residing in the thick forests of the region specialize in trading goods they fashion out of wood as well as a plethora of medicinal herbs and potions.

History

Originally a land of the elves, the region now accommodates The Chantry and all the people that came with it during and after the Rune Wars. Most elves of the region slowly converted over to the Maker in response to the protection and kindness they were offered by their guests. Out of respect they were also allowed to operate in their forests and towns, practically undisturbed, as they have since ages past.
This accord between the two seems to have been quite beneficial, as nowadays the elves and Chantry are more or less one and the same, identifying under the same banner and serving the same purpose: protect their home.
