Kafsoksyla Coastborn
Kafsoksyla Coastborn, commonly known as Kafso or Kaf, is a hero of the War of the Telvak and first king of Malpent. Orphaned at a very young age, he grew up as an urchin called Thorn in the slums of Ramela, suffering under the rule of Seldra Comanes. He escaped to the neighboring kingdom of Yegrynd at the age of 10, doing what he had to in order to survive. He was 18 years old when the war began, and, along with several other boys orphaned by the war, was taken under the wing of First, who came to believe, especially after a series of signs, that he was destined for greatness, though she did not directly share this with him. She gave him the name Kafsoksyla after a legendary cleric of Kishike, also calling him Coastborn upon learning that all he really remembered of the place where he'd been born was the smell of sea spray.
Kafso trained intensively with the sword and was mostly self-taught, though he supplemented his fighting with the occasional minor wonder of magic that he couldn't always control. He became a formidable combatant and, after defending his village from Ramelan thugs, slaying all four of them in a fit of fury, he became a symbol of hope among the people of the war-torn regions. He slew Benbrod Thrice-cursed in the Battle of Powtren, ending the war, as his supporters had been present decimating the Telvak. In the wake of the war, he claimed most of Ramela for "the downtrodden," and drew great support from the other victors, who supported his crowning as the first king of the new kingdom of Malpent.
