River Styx

The River Styx is a river flowing from Stygia, the fifth layer of the Nine Hells, to its terminus between Hades and the Abyss.
The river is deeply magical in nature, imbued with the despair of the lower planes. According to the sole account that has made it to the material plane of coming into contact with it, the touch of its gray waters drains memory. It ends in the Final Fall, a waterfall which tumbles endlessly into the void between Hades and the Abyss. The Abyss is theoretically reachable by flying creatures by crossing over the falls from Hades.
The souls of good-aligned travelers who die in one of the lower planes but manage to cling to hope are retrieved by Charon, the Ferryman, who takes them, impossibly, upriver in his craft, to bring them to their final destination.
