Tabaxi
Tabaxi are a race of catfolk native to the island of Kiritchati. They are nimble, fleet-footed people characterized by a mercurial, curious nature. Their coat patterns and colors emulate those of domestic cats, with their counterparts, leonins, emulating the appearance of wild cats. In their native land of Kiritchati, the tabaxi are isolated but not ignorant, as their culture places great importance on the gathering of artifacts and lore.
Basic Information
Genetics and Reproduction
Tabaxi give birth in litters, with single births being possible but rather rare. The typical litter is two or three, though four, five, or even six can happen, with perhaps as much commonality as twins or triplets in humans.
Additional Information
Social Structure
Tabaxi culture is based around the clan, a group which has an average of 50-60 members. They usually have a single small home base, living in ramadas. Each member of the clan has a designated job, with some hunting, some patrolling the clan's borders, some crafting tools and weapons, some caring for the young, some overseeing religious ceremonies, and so on.
Civilization and Culture
Naming Traditions
Tabaxi names are decided by the clan as a whole, using a variety of traditions rooted in astrology and clan history to produce them. They often take shortened forms of these names as nicknames, and, when traveling outside of their clan, identify themselves in affiliation with it; for example, Tallest Seedling of Quick Rapids was an adventuring bard who usually went by the nickname "Seed."
Major Language Groups and Dialects
Tabaxi have their own language, with a variety of accents whose unique quirks are difficult to discern by non-tabaxi.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Tabaxi are reclusive, and most of them have minimal contact with non-tabaxi. Those who have dared to travel are quick to form strong bonds with other humanoids—and often just as quick to up and leave, never to make contact again.
