The Red Dawn

The Red Dawn was a mercenary group mainly active in southern Vundkrag between 980 and their disbandment around 1003. They began in Jeltir, mostly bounty hunting and similar adventuring contracts, with most of their targets being humanoids, though they claimed they never undertook an outright assassination. During this time they were called the Eldak Hawks. They quickly became involved in countering the efforts of the Creed Under the Coming and Eternal Storm after the Battle of Pawns, before it became clear just how duplicitous and powerful the Creed was. They reported that after the suicide of an ally and friend they had made in Thorivir due to tragedies wrought by the Creed, they found a new commitment to law and order, dubbing themselves the Red Dawn and setting aside the need for a hefty reward, requiring only a just cause to fight for.   The group generally contained between 15 and 20 members. Multiple fell during the War of the Storm, and several new members were added. However, one was being manipulated by the Creed, and attacked her fellows from the inside. This tested them, but in the end served to strengthen their resolve and their unity.   The Red Dawn was notable for the persistence with which they continued to involve themselves in cleanup and helping to serve justice to war criminals for years following the Creed's destruction. Their efforts began to dwindle as the worst offenders had been brought to justice and they officially disbanded in 1003.   Their captain for most of the war was the mountain dwarf Eldren Dorgevid, who fell in the Battle of Middlebridge in 994 and was succeeded by his deputy, the human Rolen Windriver, who led the Red Dawn until its disbandment.
