Udjarak the Eclipse
Udjarak of Ingozabi, sometimes called the Lurking Eclipse, was a powerful Adjusk wizard known for his besieging of the royal palace of Kilidja in EL 981 and murder of King Avidja and Queen Nonebi Mawenamoto.
Little is known of Udjarak's early life, as he was fairly secretive. He had a small workshop outside the town of Idhahabu from which he performed various experiments, often involving animals. He would frequently provide magical assistance to the lord of Idhahabu and was recommended for a few jobs in Kilidja, through one of which he met Hakizimana Ami, the court wizard of King Chuma Mawenamoto. Though he had been observed multiple times treating his animals cruelly, he was considered an upstanding citizen up until he suddenly launched an assault on the royal palace in Kilidja. Many of the castle guard was enchanted during this time, and a team of masked men aided in the assault, but most notable was the plethora of wild animals, many magical in nature, released on the palace grounds. King Avidja and Queen Nonebi were kept under close guard in their chambers during this assault, but the guards were all killed, and so were the king and queen. However, the queen had gone into early labor late the previous night, and during the assault she gave birth to the twin princes Dakari and Akachi, both of whom survived, and were found crying near the bodies of their parents. The total death count, including those who died shortly after from their injuries, was 27, with many guards having been neutralized rather than killed outright, and the survivors among those he had enchanted reported that their orders had been to cause as little harm as possible, but clear the way to the king and queen as effectively and swiftly as they could.
Later, two of the masked men were apprehended, and were revealed to be mercenaries from Jeltir, having never worked with or for Udjarak until that day. His workshop was found cleaned out following the assault, and no trace of him was found for years afterwards, much to the outrage and terror of the people of Adjuskimavo.
In summer of 1000, an adventuring party consisting of Amare the Boundless, Imakulay Makuza, Lalo of Miticha, and the Marked Monk met the druid Omusupe in the form of an animal not seen since Udjarak's 981 assault on the palace. She shared where she had seen this creature, and the party found Udjarak in this region, his hideout heavily obscured by illusions and protected by abjurations. They discovered that his true goal had specifically been the murder of Queen Nonebi, in an effort to prevent her from introducing sorcerous blood into the royal family.
Immediately after he had finished revealing this information to the party, Udjarak committed suicide by stepping off the edge of his treehouse over one hundred feet in the air.
