EooD Session 37: Burning Down the House

Day 10 in the Underdark
With all the major houses of the Verschow represented at tonight's gala, the Hainauts started the work of dismantling the Baudissin's coalition. Lachesis met with Jeremias Ripperda, patriarch of the evocation casters of House Ripperda. Jeremias was open to what Lachesis had to say, especially when she revealed how Applonia was turned over to the illithids after discovering a top-secret Baudissin meeting with Naberius. Despite these revelations, Jeremias felt like he needed to stay loyal to the Baudissins for all they'd done to strengthen his house's power and influence. Lachesis regrouped with Marwen, Lando, Poolp, and Q to discuss the best way to get House Ripperda on their side. One of Lando's treaty proposals would establish three seats on Rakka's military council for the Verschow's noble houses, perhaps one of them could be reserved for the Ripperdas. The family's evocation magic could be used to improve the Rakkan war machine and lead to lucrative arms deals, more than compensating for any lost income for abandoning the Baudissins. Off on the ballroom Nineveh danced with Arnulf while some upbeat country tune played by a band of shadow servants. Jeremias proved more open to this proposal during a dance with Lachesis, but he didn't make any promises to switch sides just yet. As the gala stretched later into the evening Marwen delivered her ultimatum to the other noble houses: join the Hainauts or die with the Baudissins. Conveniently, the Baudissins showed up a few moments later with an ultimatum of their own: abandon the Hainaut conspiracy or die. Once all that talking was out of the way, a fight broke out in the middle of Castle Hainaut. Partygoers rushed for the exits and teleported away from the fight, House Ottonian and Ripperda both refusing to take a side. Only House Aribond joined the fray, the other houses waiting to see which matriarch would come out on top. The Baudissins were a family of talented conjurers, and their skills were on full display tonight. A Blade Barrier defended them from many attacks while Thoman Baudissin summoned fiends and elementals to harass the Dark Souls. Ereldra quickly dispatched with Q as the lone adventurer at the entrance of the stairway, most likely dying if it wasn't for Allexander's quick thinking. Lachesis, Poolp, and Nineveh all raced forward to fight back the Baudissins while Verity constantly had to put out literal fires caused by the elemental. Unfortunately for Poolp, Gremory the Dashing was also in the fight working for the Baudissins. Charming Poolp as the sexiest illithid he'd ever seen, the kuo-toa felt compelled to move closer towards this gorgeous being before Nineveh mercifully killed Gremory with a couple of Eldritch Blasts. Meanwhile Lachesis managed to blink past the Blade Barrier and deal copious amounts of damage to the Baudissins, forcing Ereldra to find easier targets to battle like Arnulf. She managed to knock the dark elf ranger unconscious with her magic saber, but moments later she was felled by Allexander's Magic Missile, motivated to join the fight in defense of his family. When Thoman died not long after, Sariel decided to bring out the big guns and cast 'Gate' to create a portal to the Nine Hells. While open for just a second, it was all the time Naberius needed to possess Ereldra's corpse and join the fight...
