GHG Session 13: Down on the Farm

General Summary

Month 9, Week 1, Year 918
Resting from the fight with the gator-sized sahuagin at Liadon Keep, the Fantastic Few divvied up the items found around the ruined buildings. Argus got a sharpened elven longsword, Phaedra took the cookbook Auntie Pleasant's Baked Goods and Delights, Windred got the Ring of Evasion, Zan'kiri claimed the muffled half-plate armor, and Ysmyrelda took the deceased Norman's Handgun Cloak of the Conspirator. Meanwhile Bubbles had an enlightening conversation with their patron Mórolingwe, and Argus pondered over the documents discussing a Protocol Bianca from 896. Apparently there was a conspiracy to have Empress Ophelia Avon deposed by her charismatic cousin Bianca to have a more experienced hand guiding the Elflands during a time of crisis, but the Sunken God's Reign of Terror the following year left all these conspiracies moot and the Empire in shambles.   That afternoon the adventurers journeyed about a dozen miles away from the keep, camping on the edge of farm property they'd spotted on their journey into the Imperial Marshes. Ys and Zan'kiri made small talk during their watch, during which Ys agreed to help fight the Ageless One for Zan's freedom. Their conversation was cut short when Gob surprised the party and doused Ys with holy water, but a fight was avoided when the group proved they weren't bandits and instead skilled sahuagin hunters.   Reassured, Gob let the party spend the night at his farmhouse while his son Yob played with the shiny coins given to him by the group. The farm it was a cozy respite from the rain with Joanne cooking them a late-night meal, but Zan'kiri detected tortured moans coming from the nearby barn. Tipped off by Zan, Windred spied on Gob and Joanne that night and heard them arguing about something to do with sahuagin.   The group got their answer the next day when Gob showed off his barn full of declawed and defanged sahuagin. These mutilated fishfolk were used as living scarecrows against the ghosts that haunted the farm during stormy nights, a feat that left Argus in awe and Zan'kiri disgusted. Zan mercy-killed the enslaved sahuagin, and he was ready to kill Gob and Joanne until he was forced to stand down in a confrontation with Phaedra. The argument got heated, but ultimately Joanne was allowed to escape with her son while Gob was abandoned to face the ghosts all on his own.

It was a compromise that left nobody in the party happy, but together they returned to Ardin after a week of trudging through the marshes. Argus tried checking on Jezebeth, but she wasn't in a mood for guests after receiving an upsetting letter the day before.
