GHG Session 35: Year-End's Blessings
General Summary
Month 13, Week 4, Year 918
Ignoring the warnings of the kenku revenant, the Fortunate Five continued on its winter trek through the Koulan Forests. Ownka's war camp still lay days and days away, leaving plenty of time for violent encounters with the forest's wildlife. As a protective measure and generous Ageless One Festival Week present, Zan'kiri summoned dozens of chingwa to grant charms on the group just in time for the new year.
The next attack came early that afternoon when a pack of violent trees jumped the party and consumed its frogfolk. Beguiler managed to scare one of them away with his horrifying mousiness, but not before one of the party's mules was pummeled to death. The fight soon turned into a rescue mission to save Bubbles and Frogina from the bloodthirsty trees, Reetma smacking the trees into splinters with his artisanal halfstaff while Windred transformed into a mammoth to trample the trees. And a mysterious woman showed up not long after with a glowing bear by her side, cackling while her bear hacked away at the trees. Frogina was soon rescued by Zan'kiri's skeletons, and Bubbles only suffered minimal splinter wounds when Windred toppled the offending tree. After the fight the cackling woman introduced herself as Ranger Smith, a so-called local of the Koulan Forests and guide through the region. The party agreed to have her escort them as far as the Teardrop, a landmark not far from where the party planned to search for Ownka's camp. In the afternoon the party discovered a huge statue of the Ageless One, clad in samurai plate armor and emitting a strange magic energy throughout the clearing. Beguiler and Zan'kiri felt ill moving towards the statue (perhaps more disgust from Zan'kiri), and with Windred feeling the beginnings of a quori-induced migraine it became clear that this statue was warded against any interplanar creature no matter their intent. Ysmyrelda, Reetma, Bubbles, and Ranger Smith all felt reinvigorated after touching the statue and relaxing around its base, but when Zan catapulted a decapitated mule head towards the statue it became clear that the party wouldn't be camping here for the night. Camping far from the statue's line of sight, the party enjoyed a hearty mule-based meal cooked up by Reetma as the last hours of the year 918 ticked away. Ys abstained from sampling Bubbles' nutella-cooked pasta while Beguiler enjoyed a post-bug hunting snack. Much to Zan'kiri's disgust and Frogina's utter embarrassment, Ranger Smith described Ekalian mating habits during their watch. And as dawn rose on a new year, Reetma and Windred discussed religion and forgiveness and just how many chances a person should get before they should be stopped. Hopefully 919 would hold some answers.
