HHI Session 16: Where's the Wind in My Sails?
General Summary
Month 5, Week 1, Year 908
With Cpt. Blipool eaten by giant crocodiles, the party was forced to navigate their way upriver on their own. Ithilwen steered the sailboat as best she could, bumping against the riverbanks and keeping the ship afloat for a few more days. Ithilwen probably could've gotten the ship all the way to Younashi on her own, but the party was stopped by a detachment of Oda Clan soldiers and a thick rope net raised across the Maguro River. The party came up with some half-assed lie about working as mercenaries for the Oda Clan, but the dragonborn leader of the soldiers ordered the group to return back to Shisu and to quit interfering with the Younashi siege. Of course, the party refused and entered into a vicious ranged battle with the Oda Clan soldiers. Sola's cast 'Hunger of Hadar' on the black dragonborn and his soldiers on the western riverbank, and combined with Ownka's 'Toll of the Dead' the strategy had a ruthless efficiency and a variety of damage types. When reinforcements arrived from the eastern riverbank, the party's progress was stalled when Ithilwen got KO'd twice and the boat's sails were torn apart by the crossbow bolts. Mavis managed to break through the netting with her Eldritch Blasts, and with Log's help the remaining Oda Clan forces were killed. The Seeking Scorpions had a chance to recover from the fight, resting up and investigating the bodies of the fallen soldiers for anything of interest. Ownka claimed the decapitated head of the dragonborn leader for Gruumsh while Log made a javelin out of the spine, and Ithilwen actually found something useful by uncovering some official documents hidden inside the captain's uniform. The papers may come in handy should the party continue to journey through Oda Clan territory. Sola questioned the party's motives for traveling towards the besieged city of Younashi just to make some extra money, especially since The Gatekeeper was paying them handsomely for reports on every nation. Ithilwen explained that Maris was paying them a ton of money to rescue the agents, and so far the party didn't have many allies apart from the The Gatekeeper. Sola listened and suggested that rather than taking the agents through hostile territory towards Olenjii, why not have them relocated to one of the Northern Territories' other metropolises like Sanjuro City or Ichigo? Reluctantly Ithilwen called Maris Sissava to see what the yuan-ti leader thought, and she agreed to let the party do what they thought best so long as they rescued the agents. With the ship's sails in ruins, the party would have to find a new way to make it towards Younashi without being detected by the Oda Clan...
