Lakefinder Session 13: No Laughing Matter
General Summary
Month 13, Week 2, Year 935
After taking a day to settle into town, the party began its investigation of the murders plaguing Havre. They started the day with a sugary breakfast in Karly's hotel room before heading over to the police headquarters to get the reports on each killing. Despite some skeptical looks at Eraji from the local police force, Cpt. Claude Favreau was more than willing to provide them with all the information they needed. A pattern started to emerge around the killings: each victim was killed on the night of a new moon or on a very overcast night, each one was a writer involved in the city's theater scene, each was killed in the Circus Park section of town, and each had an ominous message cut into their bodies: 'He will have the last laugh'. Coincidentally each of the victims also had tickets to an upcoming show called the Last Laugh, putting the party on edge as they realized they might have another killer clown on their hands. That afternoon they visited the Theatre d'Odelina, where a high elf stage director named Siltral was screaming at his actors over the slow pace of rehearsals. Siltral explained the plot of his play to Karly, a retelling of the intrigues and assassinations during the reign of Emperor Fortinbras II when the dark elves were banished from the Elflands Empire. Leena interviewed the actors, learning that Alain was walking home on the night of the most recent murder while Arianne was undergoing a one-on-one rehearsal with Siltral. The party suspected that a superfan or rival of Siltral might be behind the killings, so they agreed to meet with some of the other elven expats the following day. Due to Siltral's racial profiling Kai had a minor identity crisis as he discovered that he was a half-orc instead of a full human.
