Shad Stixs

A firbolg cleric and former member of Rakka's Heroes. For years he was a sailor working in the Arrayas Ocean, but after a mysterious green burst of energy destroyed his ship he was recruited to perform repairs aboard a pirate ship. When disaster struck the band of pirates he fled to Rakka and became a devotee of the god Herodotus and his powers over the forge. His peculiar upbringing made him a promising candidate for Rakka's Heroes, but he was killed by a pack of well-dressed gnolls less than a week after joining the adventuring group.

Personal history

Shad was just an infant aboard a shipping vessel in the Arrayas Ocean when a massive storm churned up 20-30 ft-tall waves. A bright green light flashed amidst the storm and light destroyed the ship with everybody on board, but Shad was lucky enough to be picked up by a band of pirates sailing through the stormy waters. The captain, Francois Stixs, took pity on the abandoned firbolg and raised Shad aboard his ship of thrill-seeking pirates. For years Shad grew up on the sea, repairing the ship and performing small chores while the rest of the crew went on violent raids. Francois saw Shad as his own child, and the two forged a close bond after years at sea.
One night in 897, Shad began having terrible dreams of a terrible monster attacking Francois' ship in the middle of the night. He tried to warned the crew, but his pleas fell on deaf ears as they continued on their voyage deep into the Arrayas. Shad's premonitions became reality a couple days later when a horde of sahuagin attacked the ship and slaughtered everybody on board during a violent storm. The young firbolg barely managed to escape holding for dear life onto a piece of flotsam until he landed on Rakka's coastline.
Shad found himself washed ashore near a small factory town, and for several years he apprenticed with local blacksmiths to learn the powers of the forge. While he accessed magical abilities and powers through his near-religious devotion to the craft, Shad's spirit remained restless as he one day dreamed of returning to the sea as the captain of his own vessel. Rumors abounded in Rakka's capital of ships that could one day sail across the air, igniting Shad's imagination and compelling him to join the newly-formed band of adventurers known as Rakka's Heroes.
The cleric's first assignment took him to the port city of Qilthani in Rakka's south to investigate an unusual gnoll raid on a local bookstore. An intense battle with a bearded devil revealed that a conspiracy was afoot with an aasmar woman named Hedera serving as an agent for a powerful devil named Naberious. The gnolls stole some arcane tomes as part of this plot, and the party would have to travel into Rakka's interior to investigate this robbery further.
It was a week's journey from Qilthani to a rugged valley near the Galban River before Shad and the rest of the party came across a pack of well-dressed gnolls playing a game of poker. Mickal Irakosk and Zayin Sephiran agreed to play a couple hands to appease the gnolls, discovering in the process that the gnolls had received the suits and cards from Naberius as compensation for their work stealing the books. When the card game turned sour and a fight broke out, the party found themselves surrounded by close to a dozen bloodthirsty gnolls. Mickal and Pino Chio escaped for the nearby plateaus, but Shad and Zayin were quickly overwhelmed by the vast number of gnolls. Shad was knocked out in a matter of seconds, and without any of his allies nearby his throat was torn out by a ravenous gnoll in a bright red suit. Shad's adventure had come to an end.
