The Secret Party Conspiracy
General Summary
Following the murder of Jezebeth Rahal by the Fortunate Five, House Hainaut was alerted to the threat posed by the adventuring group and sent Lachesis and Allexander to investigate the matter. The two of them had spent two decades in quiet exile in the Kawa Clan countryside, and this investigation provided an opportunity for the two of them to get back into the family's good graces.
Lachesis started the investigation by teleporting to Ardin and seizing all of Jezebeth's belongings and aetherforged plans for future reference. She then used contacts at the Gilded Hecat Guild (a kobold by the name of Blister) to learn more information about the adventurers, and consulted with House Aribond to find out about the fiendish forces that the party had fought in the Treeleaf Union. Felosial passed out in a days-long coma when she tried to divine information about Gray Hat, leading Lachesis to believe that this entity was a greater threat than even a band of amoral adventurers.
Lach and Allex travelled throughout Pescaliat to warn various kingdoms about the Gray Hat, from a cold reception at the Elflands capital of Henriad to a friendly and honest conversation with King Nikolaj Baratov in Myltev. Allexander was successful in finding plenty of men to seduce, and despite failing to obtain any strong commitments from world leaders Lachesis was able to ensure that many of the world's government would be aware of this burgeoning threat. Mulitple sessions of actual play were organized to further flesh out the duo's intrigues, described below:
Session 1 (11/22/21)
Month 1, Week 1, Year 919
Not long after the Fortunate Five began its contract with Chusei University, the Hainaut duo teleported up to Sanjuro City to speak with Headmistress Kyoko Hara about the threat posed by Gray Hat and the party. Despite their noble backgrounds, Lach and Allex expereienced some difficulties obtaining an audience with Kyoko beore meeting with a veteran/war hero tiefling named Kurata Aika who helped set up a meeting in the new year. Kyoko listened to their concerns about Gray Hat, explaining how Chusei intelligence indicated that this fiend was only the 'second or third-greatest' threat currently facing Ekal. Lachesis did ask some questions about Jezebeth's suspected killer Zan'kiri, learning from Kyoko that he was in fact a Gith from one of Ekal's moons. She showed them a broken Horn of Valhalla and explained how these magic items had been crafted to prevent the gith from terrorizing Ekalians after being separated from their home planes by the Veil. The situation surrounding the Veil seemed like a matter too great for just two spellcasters to resolve, so in the meantime Lach and Allex took time to learn more about the Gith and whether they were all as dangerous as Zan'kiri. A student librarian named Kuno, was convinced by a flirtatious Allex to provide them with access to a rare edition of Horatio Elsin's Strange Occurrences on the Continent of Pescat, re-issued in a gold-plated biding and translated into Kiri-Common. The book described the Gith's hatred for illithids, the distinction between githyanki and githzerai, and how a series of violent raids 900 years ago convinced the Elflands and Kiri Clan kingdoms to craft the Horns of Valhalla as a deterrent against the aliens. All of this investigating occurred while the Fortunate Five was trekking through the Koulan Forests getting harrassed by kenku skeletons. Session 2 (3/7/22)
Month 1, Week 2, Year 919
On the night when Windred called Kyoko about the party's victory against Ownka Ramm, the Headmistress was getting ready for a night at the opera with Lachesis and Allex. The show happened to be a light-hearted tabaxi comedy (a much-needed change of tone from the depressing elven tragedies that the city's Kiri Clan expats always watched), during which Kyoko learned about Reetma's criminal background from the Hainaut duo. The night's conversation convinced Lach and Allex to set in motion a reckoning for the GHG and its hiring practices. When investigating Jezebeth's death Lachesis learned that the letter of international condemnation for her aetherforged project was nothing but a forgery by the GHG's leader Kirby, the tiefling creating dozens of false signatures and elaborate legalese to deal with a problem brought to his attention by the Fortunate Five. In combination with the criminal background of many of the group's adventurers, Lach and Allex sent a copy of the letter to dwarven journalist Rutik Kapuscinski so he could investigate the corruption at the GHG for himself. The two of them left Sanjuro City the day before the Fortunate Five returned from the Koulan Forests, the dark elves heading towards Mokazai to learn more about the first recorded Gray Hat encounter. At the Sardivelian settlement the two of them were able to get a quick meeting with Elena Matarella, who believed the two of them were representatives from the Shroud seeking to pester her for more land around the tomb unearthed in the Forests. Deciding not to disillusion her about this perceived affiliation, thanks to Elena the two of them obtained records about the names of the loggers who first encountered the Gray Hat tomb and the company in charge of the disastrous operation. It took some extreme investigative work on Lachesis' part, but she managed to find out that the Bianchi Company (the company in charge of the ill-fated logging camp), was a subsidiary of the wealthy Vivaldi Family. Pleased with these discoveries, the aunt-nephew duo started mapping out their future expeditions, first deciding to travel north into the Koulan Forests to see the site of this original Gray Hat tomb. Afterwards they'd travel to the Myltevian village of Gordigrad to meet with someone who'd be able to tell them more about the threat posed by the Gith: Craghan Navierre.
