Sir Whimsicott's Guild report - 0.2.23 agf Part 2
Strange Wares - Part 2
...After discovering the merchant was heading to Axilon, they moved with their handlers, unable to move themselves to the town, in search of the merchant. Each bandit held one of the Heroes in an item, and they worked in pairs, one corporeal and one like a ghost to search. They somehow lucked upon the old man as he left the Trading Houses and cornered him in the main street!
He seemed to smile and talk in his changing accents, finding all this very funny! He freed the heroes, but claimed the fun was just beginning!
Transforming into an old but spry wizard and calling himself "Connor" "Corrin" and "Corth" and seeming to change accents and names on the fly, a strange black bird perched on his staff squawked "Told you it wouldn't work wouldn't work" and looked at the players with intelligent eyes.
The city grew strange and they found they could not leave it, as the edge had been cleaved into sheer cliffs into blackness, and the old man had disappeared in a peal of laughter! He was somewhere nearby.
They searched around and found the bird perched atop the Copperplate Inn, and they cast a firebolt at it. But the bolt multiplied chaotically and set the inn ablaze! they worked with the Bandits, the townsfolk and put the blaze out, but then one of the rescuers put his hand on the paladin's shoulder and sighed, it was the old man! he winked and disappeared, but they saw smoke issuing from a smoldering chair inside, where the ravenlike bird sat on the back.
Inside, they found the old man in the chair, but at that moment, a musician sat upright on the stage and began to play the fiddle, the Wizard started to dance around attacking them in time to the tune, and the Paladin started dancing uncontrollably too. One of the others jumped onto the stage to stop the musician, but found when she raised her long hair from her face, it was the wizard again! and try as she might, the musician was like mist, and could not be stopped!
Fighting fiercely, they managed to begin to overpower the wizard, but then the bird flapped its wings and threw them and the bandits and the wizard and itself through a portal in the wall!
They fell back onto the Dig Site deck, and the Wizard landed in their midst, the bird now a mount and larger than a horse. he told them to "Get Off His Lawn" and attacked!
They fought with all their might against the black bird and its rain of razor sharp feathers and the wizards spells, eventually besting him as he laughed, shook their hands and then skipped away with the raven in tow, whistling an unusual tune.
The Dig Site had apparently experienced no issues so they accepted their pay, and the three bandits agreed to go straight and join the guild.
