Verdant's Light report from Eal - 0.4.19 agf

Rotwood corruption

A group of adventurers from the guild accepted a quest to save the missing people from Eal trapped in Finely Manor, and take out Malix Silvershade of the Rotwood Conclave and Finley himself. While some of the group were motivated to stop a great evil others were driven by revenge; Malix had insulted the memory of Azrael’s father, and greatly injured Nyra the last time they met, Thea wanted to stop the Conclave so she could focus on her family, while Novak had been apart of the last attempt to stop Finley and wanted to see it through.

The group arrived at the manor and after scouting it tried to open the door. The second they touched the handle of the door the manor exploded in a massive fireball sending the group flying through the air and darkness took hold of them. When they woke up, they were in cages in some kind of damp cave but certain elements of a manor were still visible around them; ornate paintings on the cave walls, occasional tiles on the floor, statues, polished staircases etc. Unsure if poor transportation magic was used or perhaps an illusion. And on each of their hands was a rune burnt into their skin.

They escaped their cages and went to find Finley who Teegath knew to be hiding in the second room on the second floor. Unfortunately, the door was blocked by some kind of cursed shield. They first entered a library where they met a happy and extremely intelligent ogre with severe memory loss – another of Finley’s magical tests. They befriended him and he gave them books as a sign of their friendship. The next room was a dungeon where they found 4 people trapped in cages – 3 matched the missing person reports they were given. The floor was trapped to expel acid from pipes hidden around the room, but after a small accident with the acid the group managed to get everyone out. Unfortunately, the second they left the room with the missing people, Thea’s rune started to burn and a portal opened behind her revealing a beholder. During the fight Azrael’s rune activated and blinded him, Teegath’s rune activated stopping her from using first level spells, and Price’s rune forced him to attack an ally. The group managed to destroy the beholder but not before it disintegrated two of the people they were trying to save.

Finally, they found Finley in a large room with Malix and an unknown rogue corrupted with blight. They fought a very close battle where some of the group went down but they managed to kill Finley and the rogue, but Malix escaped. Azrael took Finley’s head as proof, and the group escaped with the two people they managed to save.
