Order of the Silent Veil

The Order of the Silent Veil is a secretive and ancient monastic order dedicated to understanding and maintaining the balance between life and death, as well as using their unique powers to protect the innocent from evil.   The order keep a monastery called Raven's Perch hidden deep in the Kaldera Mountains, far from the prying eyes of the outside world. The monastery's location is a well-guarded secret, and only those with a deep connection to the order can find it. The monks here make careful study of a magical energy called ki. This energy is an element of magic that flows through their living bodies. The monks harness this power within themselves to create magical effects and exceed their bodies’ physical capabilities.   Monks who join the order undergo rigorous training to develop and control their abilities. They learn not only to communicate with spirits, but also to maintain a profound respect for the balance of life and death. The monks practice meditation, martial arts, magical Sak Yant tattooing and ancient rituals that strengthen their connection to the spirit world. Most worship The Raven Queen (The Matron of Death) and see themselves as guardians of the "Veil" that separates the living world from the realm of the dead. They believe it is their duty to maintain this balance, ensuring that neither the living nor the deceased suffer undue harm. They often perform sĂ©ances and exorcisms to help spirits find peace, and use their powers to heal and protect when necessary.   The Order of the Silent Veil have access to contacts with interest in spiritualism and the occult, including hapless dilettantes, reclusive scholars, correspondents from other domains, and hucksters. At any time, members of the organization might call upon their contacts to uncover some esoteric secret, engage in a supernatural investigation, or even explore another domain.
