Fang Dragon

A fang dragon, also known as a gray dragon, is a type of dragon found in Elaris.

Description

Fang dragons are poor flyers, with small muscled wings. Their eyes tend to be either red or orange. Their heads are edged with spikes or horns. Their bodies tend to be covered in bony plates the end in spurs at the joints, and their tails are forked with scythe-like tips. Their scales are a muddy mix of gray and brown.

Personality

These dragons are susceptible to seemingly random outbursts of rage and violence. They are exceptionally cruel, and have a tendency to "play" with their food. However, if backed into a corner, they are quick to bargain for their lives.   They can perfectly mimic any sound or voice which they have previously heard.

Combat

Fang dragons are skilled at physical combat, particularly because their bodies are so lethal. They can use their muscled wings for quick forward lunges, using their tails to trip opponents and their claws to slash, all the while menacing their foes with the bony spurs all over their bodies.   The bite of a fang dragon can drain the life force from a victim, however they do not have a breath weapon.   Fang dragons have the innate yet limited ability to cast a number of spells, namely detect magic, read magic, shield, telekinesis, dispel magic, spell turning, and globe of invulnerability. They develop these powers as they age, and the eldest of fang dragons has the ability to regenerate. However, fang dragons' magic is not particularly powerful compared to most other types of dragons, and thus some supplement their powers with the use of magic items.

Society

Diet

Their diet consists of flesh, of which they prefer that of intelligent mammals.

Lairs

Fang dragons make their homes in rocky areas—particularly low-lying caves in mountainous regions and the upper regions of the Underdark. They sometimes seal up their lairs with large boulders and other materials before leaving them, usually in the hunt for food, which they prefer to find far from their homes.

Languages

Fang dragons tend to speak bits and pieces of a handful of languages, and they use this ability in order to negotiate their way out of situations that can result in difficult or even deadly battles.

Relationships

Although cruel and aggressive, a dang dragon never attacks another of its kind. They generally mate once every sixty years, but do not form family units.   They have an instinctive and mutual dislike of red dragons. Despite this, the two rarely fight due to not often sharing similar territory with fang dragons being horrid flyers and red dragons preferring to roost and lair very high up.   Fang dragons almost never make Dragonborn, and so the few fang dragonborn that do exist can often trace their familial lineage back for long periods of times to a few individual fang dragonborn created for an unknown purpose. These clans are thus very united among their own people, and almost never interact with each other outside of trading members for the purposes of repopulating the tribes.
