Thornlayan

Nestled along the southern edge of the non-frozen lands of Elaris, Thornlay stands as a testament to the resilience of diverse peoples who have come together out of necessity. In a land characterized by harsh earth, jagged mountains, and an unforgiving environment, the inhabitants of Thornlay have formed a unique society where cooperation and resourcefulness are key to survival.   Thornlay is a true melting pot of races, where humans, elves, dwarves, orcs, and more coexist in an intricate tapestry of cultures and traditions. Each race has brought its own strengths and knowledge to the land, forging a society that thrives on diversity. The need to overcome the challenges posed by Thornlay’s rugged terrain and relentless climate has fostered cooperation among these diverse inhabitants, leading to a culture where unity and mutual support are paramount.   Life in Thornlay is not for the faint of heart. The harsh terrain and unpredictable weather require its residents to be resourceful and self-sufficient. The people of Thornlay have developed a deep understanding of the land, from how to cultivate hardy crops that can thrive in the rocky soil to mastering the art of mining in the formidable mountains. This resourcefulness has allowed them to carve out a living in a land that outsiders often consider uninhabitable.   In Thornlay, the bonds forged through adversity run deep. The inhabitants have learned to rely on each other, regardless of race or background, as they face common challenges. This has led to a unique tradition of a shared military brotherhood, where warriors from different races come together to protect their homeland from external threats, be they natural disasters or invading forces. The Thornlayan military is known for its resilience and adaptability, with each soldier bringing their own unique skills to the battlefield.   Thornlay is dotted with fortified settlements that serve as hubs of community life. These settlements are often nestled within the protective embrace of the rugged mountains or located near natural resources, making them vital centers for trade and survival. They are a reflection of Thornlay’s multicultural society, with each settlement having its own blend of architectural styles, languages, and traditions.   Thornlay’s diverse population has led to a rich tapestry of cultural exchange. The sharing of stories, music, and art has resulted in a fusion of traditions and beliefs that is unique to Thornlay. Festivals celebrating the land’s bountiful harvests and the unity of its people are common, and they often feature performances that showcase the talents of various races. These celebrations serve as a reminder of the strength that can be found only through the diversity of their peoples.   Thornlay stands as a testament to the indomitable spirit of its people. In a land that outsiders might consider harsh and unforgiving, Thornlayans have learned to thrive through cooperation, resourcefulness, and a shared commitment to survival. Their diverse society serves as a shining example of the strength that can be found in unity, even in the most challenging of environments.

Living in Thornlay, little edible vegetation can grow, and what does is expensive. As such, most people tend toward a more meat-focused diet, and even the young are taught to lead herds. Due to this, all Thornlay humans gain the Animal Handling skill without spending a nonweapon proficiency slot.
