Half Elf

There is no stigma attached to being a half-elf in Eldarr. Elves hold all elven blood to be sacred, and a half-elf is no different to them than a full-blooded elf. The vast majority of half-elves live among their elven brethren as normal citizens. Other races often enjoy half-elves more than pure elves, as the half-elf's features are more intriguing than exotic, and, among more cultured or enlightened people, the half-elf reminds them of a time when the races got along better.   However, half-elves do have a link to the mortal world. A half-elf may choose to become mortal at any point in their life. This choice is one-time only, and is not a decision to be taken lightly. Elves often hold great sadness for their brethren that have chosen to limit their time on Eldarr, but many also hold a strange fascination and jealousy for the experience they will never have.

However, half-elves are unique in that they can choose to forsake their immortality and embrace their human heritage. Many elves envy the half-elves this choice.   When creating a half-elf character, a player must choose whether he/she wants the half-elf to be immortal or mortal. An immortal half-elf has the same access to Ancient Feats as an elf does. A mortal half-elf embraces some of the versatility of their human heritage; he/she gains a bonus feat at 1st level and is denied access to the Ancient feats. A mortal half-elf still has a tremendous lifespan – often living 800 to 1000 years.
