Imperial Army of Acheron
As a highly strategic and innovative military leader, Emperor Drakus Coaltongue designed a military structure that prioritizes flexibility, mobility, and adaptability on the battlefield. Every able-bodied citizen of the Acheron Empire must serve at least one tour of two to four years. His military doctrine involved the following elements:
- Specialized Units: Drakus emphasized the importance of specialized units that are highly trained and equipped to handle specific combat situations. These units included highly mobile cavalry, archers with long-range capabilities, and elite infantry units. Coaltongue also made liberal use of assassination ahead of an invasion to disrupt the enemy's command structure.
- Agile Command Structure: Drakus also designed an agile command structure that enables quick decision-making and adaptation to changing battlefield conditions. This involved a decentralized chain of command, with individual units given more autonomy to respond to threats and opportunities on the ground.
- Use of Technology: Drakus was also keen to leverage the latest technological advances in weaponry, armor, and communications to give his soldiers an edge on the battlefield. This included the use of siege engines, explosive devices, and communication devices to enable better coordination and strategy.
- Emphasis on Intelligence: Drakus placed a high value on intelligence gathering, both before and during battles. This could involve the use of scouts, spies, and informants to gather information on enemy movements and intentions, as well as the use of advanced reconnaissance technology to monitor the battlefield in real-time.
- Warlord - The supreme commander of the entire Acheron Army. Typically, this was held personally by Emperor Drakus Coaltongue but he was known to temporarily appoint others when his time was limited.
- Army - The largest formation, consisting of multiple divisions and commanded by a general.
- Division - The primary tactical and administrative unit, consisting of several regiments and commanded by a division commander.
- Regiment - A smaller unit than a division, consisting of several battalions and commanded by a colonel or lieutenant colonel.
- Battalion - A unit of several companies or squadrons, commanded by a captain.
- Company - A unit of soldiers organized into platoons, commanded by a captain or lieutenant.
- Platoon - A unit of several squads, commanded by a lieutenant.
- Squad - The smallest tactical unit, consisting of several soldiers led by a non-commissioned officer, such as a sergeant.
