Green Thumbs
Structure
Copperleaf - Novitiate Rank. Copperleaves are thought the very basics of alchemical theory, harvesting practices, plant identification, and tool usage. As they have not yet proven their dedication to the craft and the tenets of the organization, they will not receive their Laurel until such time as they attain Silverdust rank.
Silverdust - Apprentice rank. Having proven their ability with the basics of alchemical and herbalogical theory and practice, the Silverdust will be given a collection of experimental treatises so that they may familiarize themselves with the various disciplines studied within the guild. A Silverdust will then be encouraged to seek out a particular specialty among the disciplines. Members of this rank have shown themselves to be capable of and responsible enough to create mundane concoctions with a high degree of regularity and quality. They may also be permitted to carry out their own experimentation, cultivation of more dangerous crops, and the creation of more difficult known concoctions under the supervision of their Gold Child.
Gold Child - Expert rank. At this rank, a member has the ability to recruit interested parties to the Guild. They are responsible for training and instructing members of Copperleaf and Silverdust ranks as well as overseeing their work, though they may choose to work alone. While any work done by their junior ranking members must be submitted to or directly observed by a Gold Child, a Gold Child is forbidden from claiming this work as their own unless a portion of the work was strictly performed or formulated by them and this must be specifically annotated within their notes. All work compiled by the Gold Child must be submitted by the first of the month to the Platinum Sage unless the Gold Child is on an expedition of some sort or otherwise unavailable, in which case it is expected that detailed notes will be submitted in total at the earliest possible convenience.
Platinum Sage - Master rank. A Platinum Sage has acquired the highest possible rank within the Green Thumbs through displays of consistent brilliance in their chosen discipline of specialty or, as is typical, an impressive feat of combining all the disciplines of the Guild. It is typical to only have one Platinum Sage in any given city, though not because of a sense of territoriality; rather, the heights of skill required to reach this rank are sufficiently high to provide a barrier to entry to nearly all members of a populace, even those among the Guild's numbers. These learned scholars and practitioners of all things alchemical and botanical are responsible for the administration of the Guild within a given area, preside over hearings regarding the misconduct of guild members, and officiate promotions for members progressing from Silverdust to Gold Child and from Gold Child to Platinum Sage.
Cultivar - Sage's Council. While not an official rank, achieving the rank of Platinum Sage allows one admission to the Sage's Council, referred to as the Cultivar. Although rarely called, meetings of the Cultivar are convened to discuss the most momentous or dire of circumstances or ethical dilemmas, such as what course of action should be taken regarding the discovery of Spiritwort in the Dragon's Spine Mountains in the west of Evarra, a magical plant that separates the soul from the body for a short time. The ultimate decision to allow its study only in the strictest of controlled environments and with only willing participants explicitly informed of the dangers of the process was decided at one such meeting.
