It's a decaying rate for them they have stopped their body from growing. The rate of decay all the depends on the power that is in the phylactery. They do this by adding living creatures’ souls to the phylactery. the more powerful the soul the more energy is given to the phylactery, and the slower the decay will happen. If they keep using top-end souls such as powerful Wizards, Adventurers, and so on. The decay will be extremely slow and they are basically immortal. It will come with time when the body will not be able to be fully sustained and now become what we picture a lich to be. That usually takes decades of time, but it's could take centuries done right.

If no souls or lesser souls to fill the phylactery the rate of decay will be extremely fast. eventually, if they do nothing to rectify the problem they will lose their sense of self. If this happened you now have a lich with no self-control or self-identity, that still has all their power. They are known as ravaged lich and should be shown was just as much caution as a normal lich. That because it is undead raw magical power, that uncontrolled is what you'll be facing in this state.

Become A Lich

Lich doesn't have any taboos but becoming a lich is a world taboo. Almost every culture Kingdom and person in this world would agree becoming a lich is an act of evil. The followers of the 8 gods and goddesses will see it as a betrayal on the gods and goddesses.

The first you would have to create a phylactery. Phylactery Can only be created from natural materials similar to a Golem . The enchantments and ruins you put on it you must use a natural resource. Blood is the most common one used and tends to have the most power.Lay Line Crystals seem not to work with this type of magic.

Second, you'll need the crate the potion of Drouls. This potion will kill you and release your soul into the mortal realm.

Third you will have to do a ritual on your body and prepare it for the connection between your soul the phylactery and itself. The ritual is a long and sensitive process, using lots of energy and a couple of sacrifices.

last it's time to drink up and you better have a way to pull your soul into the phylactery. Some set off a trigger-like spell to pull their soul into it. Some powerful Wizards have their familiars or summoning’s put their souls into the phylactery. No matter how you do it, this hardest and riskiest part is where you can lose your soul.
