The Blood Legion was the name given to the group of soldiers led by
Garlan Tyler during his attempt to take control of
the Kingdom of Erdantia. After Charlie's takeover, the legion became some of the most elite soldiers of Erdantia's Military, most of its soldiers absorbed into the Erdantian military. Today, they still exist under this same purpose despite another change of power, although there are now only 21 Blood Legionnaires.
Composition
The Blood Legion has a fixed number of 21 knights, as well as around 15 support staff (4 cart drivers, 4 porters, 2 cooks, and 2 legal support staff if a squad is doing law enforcement). The Blood Legion generally travel with other units of the military when participating in battles, so logistical support is available from them.
The Soldiers of the Blood Legion are the most well-equipped of the entire military, with some of the strongest armour, custom made to each soldier, and very well-crafted weapons, again custom made. Each member of the Blood Legion is given a horse and necessary tools, such as eating knives, basic medicine, etc. Most soldiers tend to use full-body plate armour, although Sir Alice Brooker uses chainmail and some very light plate armour over her torso and uses an arming sword. The leader, Sir Willhelm Alexander, uses a battleaxe, and Sir Clement Fletcher uses a crossbow and a war axe.
Each squad generally has 10 horses, five for the knights, two pulling a supply cart, and three spares. The Head Legionnaire also keeps a horse, making the total number of horses 41.
The rank given to the head of the Blood Legion is Head Legionnaire, equivalent to the rank of Margrave within the rest of the army. The current Head Legionnaire is Sir Willhelm Alexander. It is split into four squads, each led by a commander. Squads operate on a rota, with two squads assigned to warfare and two assigned to law enforcement at any one time. With knights assigned to law enforcement, the squad will be sent to a specific county, and troops will scatter across the cities in that county. When a Blood Legionnaire is on duty, they assume the same responsibilities and rank as a guard captain, being involved in decision making of the guard.
The Blood Legion is a shock unit, meaning that it leads charges, participating in high-risk operations. The knights typically use a chaotic, skirmish-like formation, in which knights generally fight as powerful individuals rather than acting as a cohesive unit. As such, it is far more difficult for the enemy to adjust their tactics to multiple knights fighting in their own unique style than it is to develop tactics for a single unit.
Logistics
When a squad is assigned to law enforcement, a Blood Legionnaire has command over guardsmen and may command them as they see fit a similar story occurs when operating with the Erdantian Standing Army, in which any given Blood Legionnaire has command over Erdantian footsoldiers.
History
The organisation was first created in 1422, as the name for the band of followers that Garlan Tyler had collected in the hopes of taking the throne. After Garlan takeover in 1427, most of the soldiers in the Blood Legion were reassigned to the recently acquired Erdantian standing army. The very best soldiers, however, were permitted to retain the title of Blood Legionnaire. When the throne was reclaimed by the young Markus Tyler, the Blood Legion was not disbanded as many had expected, but instead was integrated into Markus's new regime, having all of the old soldiers loyal to Garlan expelled (and possibly executed), replacing them with some of the finest soldiers of Markus's own loyalists, which are of a fixed number, 21.
Nice and short read here. I would like to give you an advice I was given, before a new header you could put a beak-line in there, so it doesn’t look to cramped and it’s easier for the eye. Maybe if you have created them you could give links to other things mentioned in the article.
