YP - Session 4 {Finale}
General Summary
Upon reaching the safety of Genesis Keep the party had warned Captain Dorn, and the other inhabitants of a pending attack, but due to heavy resistance in making the trip back, the group had retired for some much needed rest. 4hours into their recuperation Maximus and Bushrod were woken up by the sounds of fighting in the keep. Mostly refreshed they went to investigate only to find that the Vanguard had scaled the mountains flanking the keep and launched a surprise attack.
Maximus and Bushrod joined the fray and left their still visibly exhausted allies in the barracks to continue their rest. The two, along with the members of the Last Bastion were able to repel the attack only to find that it was a mere test of the keep's defense, and ominously as Captain Dorn was investigating the Book of Woe, a dark cloud emerged from within the book and out of the library until it coalesced into the shape of a black skull suspended over the keep. At the conclusion of the skirmish, Bushrod and Maximus had regrouped with the Captain and two Lieutenants. It was reported that there were 5 injured and 3 dead, and were taken down to the infirmary. Also it was found that amongst the attack, the civilians of the keep managed to hide in the various rooms built into the mountain. They had resurfaced and resumed their preparations to leave the keep.
In the library with the commanding officers, Bushrod was provided with a hollow book titled "Last Minute Heroics" and within the book was a scroll that contained a spell that signaled the assistance of the dwarves. At this point Kastor and Dathar had risen from their slumber looking refreshed. With the hopes of aid, the Last Bastion began to fortify and prepare defenses by building makeshift barricades, preparing hot oil, as well setting up bows and arrows up on the battlement, all while assisting the civilians with the belongings and the important possessions of the keep.
Help arrived in the form of a dwarven patrol in plate armor. Upon collaborating with the Keep's superiors the following goals were devised:
1. Hold out long enough for Dwarven reinforcements to arrive.
2. Prevent the keep from falling.
3. Make sure the civilians are safely in the pass.
4. Halt the assailants from making it past the keep.
The party found out there was a contingency plan that should the keep be overrun, there were scrolls provided to collapse the mountain onto the pass and keep to ensure the civilizations to the South and the rest of the continent remained safe. It was during this time that the assailants began to emerge from The Wildes and launched their assault. Genesis Keep's high and thick walls as well as the natural bottleneck provided the defenders with an early advantage, but soon the sheer numbers of the attackers was too much that they scaled ended up scaling the walls while siege engines and frost giants broke through the keep's gate forcing the Last Bastion to retreat. It was a valiant defensive stand where most of the Last Bastion fell in defense of the continent. The civilians and the member of the Nighthawks survived to tell their tale.
It is said that the survivors reintegrated back to society, others say the Dwarves of the Gwhimmidon took in the survivors as a token of appreciation for their service and bravery, yet there are those that say everyone had perished in the pass. Dathar - became a professor of archaeology at the Ibberrian University. His thesis on the whereabouts of the Ancient Inhabitants of the Wildes and the Fall of Baalengaard is an interesting topic of discussion for history lovers. He is discoveries during expeditions back north contribute to the Museum of Mysteries. Kastor - ended up going back for another tour of duty as a medic for the holy order of his deity(The Quartz Conclave), but retired shortly thereafter and ended up writing the cult classic children's books called "All the Places You can Go, if you Worship the Rainbow", and the less popular "It’s not Porn, when you Praise the Unicorn." Maximus - was said to start up a lucrative underground gambling ring that spans the entirety of the Northern Iberrios. Word is that he has holds sway over many nobles. Those close to him say he's had trouble sleeping and is haunted by nightmares. Bushrod - became an associate professor along with Dathar at the prestigious Iberrian University. There he specializes in the study of dreams and sleep. He and Maximus continue to play pranks on Dathar.
