Goldgate

An engineering marvel, the city structured out of stone and iron is home to many technological and arcane advancements unseen by the rest of the world. Home to the isolated Vikiri people, it is a closed off coastal capital that has little contact with the rest of the world by choice. Travelers who have been lucky enough to see past its iron walls talk of strange metal constructs walking the roads, arcing bolts of lightning jumping between buildings, and the very streets hum with arcane energy. Clockwork machines whirl about building sides, alchemical contraptions putter along the roads, plums of smoke and steam billow from chimneys and stacks. The city is loud and busy, with its inhabitants working from sunrise to sunset. Much like the efficient and brilliant machines they create, the Vikiri of Goldgate work and study throughout the city.

Buildings

The Great Citadel

A tower structure reaching fifty feet in the air, this building is a fortress, dockyard, prison, lighthouse, trade yard, and barracks. Constantly being updated and upgraded, the Great Citadel is the hallmark of Vikiri engineering. Visitors, merchants, or travelers of any sort must pass through this building in order to gain entry to the city, and most do not get past the building. The Great Citadel is run by Administrator Othar Dannis.

University of Sciences

The sister school to the more selective University of Magics, this academy not only handles all seduction of adolescent Vikiri, but the majority of further education in the empirical fields. The university was founded under the Vikiri principle of ‘tríó hugans’, the belief of the three tenants of progress; study, practice, and application. Hence why the building has a three tower design. The university is overseen by Headmistress Nora Hilmar.

University of Magics

Arcane studies and its quantitative approach to magic meant that the Vikiri were bound to master it. And as it goes with magic, only a select few have what it takes. The University of Magics is second only to Helmarfinn-Goldaladar. The university prides itself on its highly focused studies and applications, waylaying certain schools of magic such as evocation and illusion and prioritizing ones like transmutation and conjuration. The school is overseen by Archmage Aldy Imeal.

Disynod Building of Law

Built atop a steep hill, overlooking a rather weather part of town, is where The Disynod meets, as well as containing the original Ethica Intellectual manuscript. Complete with statues of famous Disynod members, a garden, and the more ‘artistic’ architecture that can be found in Goldgate, the state house is the one of two buildings that belong to ‘the people’ of Vikiria. The current leader is Council Speaker Kvirson Oir.

Chamber of the Cognestruct

A gorgeous yet simple building decorated with smokey glass and spires, it is also heavily guarded. Within is the opus of Vikiri ingenuity; an Arcane Mind. A achirement thought to have been lost to Cosmic Schism, the artificial mind is maintained by the perfect marriage of magic and science. The arcane mind is used to help run the city, make decisions, and predict actions, among other things. The team of mages and engineers that maintain and advance the mind is led by Overseer Liam Godos.

Goldgate Warhouse

The second of the two ‘public’ buildings in Goldgate, it is headquarters for the Vikira military. It houses the offices for the Trio of Admiralty, as well as the training grounds for new members within the navy. The Warhouse is one of the oldest structures in Goldgate, originally being part of the original wall. The chief admin within the trio is Admiral Natalia Illies.

Hall of Arcane Engineering

A large company, these engineers work on the forefront of technology. Night and day they work testing new advancements in arcane science. Currently, the flagship project is the construction of the world's first airship. HAE also broke ground nearly 50 years ago by hiring the first non-vikiri to work in its labs and workshops, and thus sprinboarded the relationship between the Vikiri and gnomish freelancers. The company is run by President Ægir Vöttss.

Powder & Arms

They are the company responsible for the design and manufacturing of both black powder, and its related weaponry. They work in close tandem with the navy, supplying them with technology. With the nature of their work, Powder & Arms is very secretive of their assets, and can be most distrusting of Vikiri business, even by their standards. The company is run by President Ninna Hjoll.

Shipwright Associates

Another major company in Goldgate, they build the vast majority of ships for the Navy, as well as advanced navigation technologies that are sold beyond Treal. They have pioneered the first ironclad vessel, hoping to extend their exploratory and research reach further north. The company prides themselves on their versatility of ship designs at their disposal. The company is run by President Eyvar Þórhad.

Academy of Histories and Cultures

The most recent of schools built, the academy focuses on studying other nations, cultures, and regions of the world. Often the professors will have just returned from a journey far away, and those looking for a night of entertainment and leisure will attend the lecture. This takes the place of most common forms of entertainment in Vikiri culture. Very few attend the academy with the intention of full time study and research. The academy is run by Headmaster Sirgar Vestma.

Institute of Alchemistry

One of the oldest institutions in Goldgate, the Institute of Alchemistry is a crown jewel of the Vikiri's tenacity for advancement. It was here that black powder was invented, as well as countless other alchemical formulas. The alchemists of the institute are always seeking new ways to innovate combustion, healing, and transmutation, just to name a few of the fields. Their head scientist is Alchemist Lukas Vinjar.

Vikira Observatory

Only in the past few decades has the excitement and importance of the study of the heavens wriggled its ways in the minds of the Vikiri. And since then, there has been a boom. The observatory is home to over a dozen astronomers, all focusing their eyes to the stars, looking to further their understanding of the increasingly bewildering nature of space. The lead astronomer is Dr. Maggery Kvira.
