The Holy and Sovereign Nation of Darburn

A dogmatic sect of the Romith Church, known as the Church of the High Orthodox, wrested control of this region warlords, minor nobles, and bandits almost 800 years ago. Darburn is a medium sized nation, caught between rocky shorelines and the Ironforge Mountains. The land is mostly woodlands and small mountain ranges, with rocky plains in between. The Church of the High Orthodox rules the region with an iron fist, enforcing their rule and religion.

Government

Divine Justices (Oligarchic Kritarchy)

The nation is led by a single High Judge who is chosen by the gods, and each settlement is led by a lesser Judge chosen by the High Judge. The true rulers of the state are the gods themselves, the Judges are merely enforcing their laws on the people. While the Judges do not have the ability to make legislation, they can interpret the law given to them by the goods as they see fit.
High Judge This person is the chief leader of the nation, and chosen representative of the gods. They have nigh absolute power, though are often kept in check by the Paragona Divine, the priesthood of Darburn. The position is held for life. Once a High Judge dies a funeral rite is held, and that is where the new High Judge is chosen by divine intervention.
Judge This person is the leader of their local community, whether it be a small mining town or busting port city. The person is chosen by the High Judge, and the title can be stripped away at any time. According to the scriptures, the gods also choose the person for this position, but because the High Judge represents the gods, they have the choosing power. Anyone can be chosen, regardless of religion, gender, or age. Most often a person of the wealthy elite is chosen.
Justicars Paladins of the Church of the High Orthodox, these stoic warriors of the gods are trained from a young age to be the front line of defense for the laws of the gods. Taught to be impartial arbiters of the law, they have very little wiggle room in their psyche. They are ruthless, convicted, and dangerous.
Paragona Divine The priesthood of the Church of the High Orthodox. While this is not technically a government position, the nature of the state being a Kritarchy, the clerics have a great amount of power. Anyone can become priest within the church, but only those that are anointed by the high priests can be the Paragona Divine.

Territories

Corlow Island

A rocky, volcano island with a sparse forest and even sparse civilization. A great amount of dangerous monsters, brigands, and other creatures roam the mountainous island, searching for lost travelers or the unfortunately curious.

The Green Coast

Home to the capitol, the stout coastline is a bustling nook along the Sea of Vysus. Any settlement land here is sandwiched between the Wood and the ocean, making it a relatively dense area. Many pilgrims can be found along the roads here, travelling to the Palace of The Fourteen.

Nelo Kien

A relatively quiet, rainy coastal and forested land. Home to pious and peaceful people looking for a quaint life. And because of this attitude the region is home to many refugees from the wars that have passed. The beauty of the region comes from watching the gorgeous sunsets from the rocky coasts across the shining ocean.

The Riverlands

A fertile and temperate region of Darburn that has attracted many pioneers. Several dozen nameless hamlets line the rivers, and tropes of Justiciars patrol along the riverbanks. Protected from the Wood by mountains and waterways, the Riverlands is a quickly growing province.

Undesar

A highly patrolled, though unfortified buffer region between Cithriel and Darburn. Home to very little, the region is often treated as a neutral territory, though the Wizards of Darburn claim much of the land as their own.

Valley of Neotomas

The breadbasket of Darburn, the valley is filled with fields of golden wheat, dotted with hundreds of the humble farmsteads. While nestled between two mountain ranges, the valley is safer than most regions, and is home to ancient religious history.

The Wood of Greenhold

A massive, untamed wildland. Only the bravest or daftest of souls will trek into the woodland without proper protection and guides. Monstrous howls and roars can be heard far from the tree line, instilling the people that live nearby to create all manner of myths about the inhabitants.

Wrathburg

The northernmost region of Darburn. A relatively rocky and forested area, much of the unclaimed land is heavily patrolled by Justiciars and rangers, as the nearby Spinelands and mountain pass attract much unwanted attention.
