The Northwind
Before druids had begun watching over the Blackwood Grove, lumberjacks had been felling trees for nearly a century. The last project that was completed before druids fended off the settlers was a massive galleon. A ship christened The Northwind. The ship was the largest of its kind, the first and greatest of the tall ships. It was designed by Bulli Renglefrodoburg, a legendary gnomish shipwright. Initially it was financed by the Talons of the Coast to be used in their quests, but the ship proved strangely difficult to sail, and so was sold off as an independent merchant vessel. It was not until Captain Hargam Windsorrow that things changed for the crew of the Northwind.
Due to the primal magic awakened in the treated Blackwood, Hargam felt that the ship was more than a hunk of wood; he believed that she was alive. And so, the new captain began to treat the ship as though she were part of the crew. This practice proved fruitful, as the crew and their expeditions became lucrative. Ever since then The Northwind has been sailing the seas of Eliosara, trekking from one grand adventure to the next. And the reverence the crew shows for the ship is central to the philosophy of each captain the ship has had since Hargam.
The Northwind is an iconic vessel, with a legendary repertoire of sorites and journeys. She boasts an eclectic crew from all over the globe; some of the greatest sailors out there. But most notably is that The Northwind is somewhat alive. The magical wood that she is crafted of has awakened, and thus the ship yearns to be out on the seas, looking for the next exciting expedition.
