Valkyrian Battle Academy
Valkyrian Battle Academy, "Valkyrian" or "The Valkyrian" is a prestigious military training institution based in Central, Middlegard. It aims to develop future leaders and operatives for Atrium's military branches and Intelligence Core. Its recruitment is highly selective with a ninety percent attrition rate in its entrance exams. Those accepted are split into class groups based on strength, agility, charisma, and intelligence in and out of dangerous scenarios. The curriculum is four years but can go up to eight depending on the cadet's choice of assignment in the 4th year. Upon graduation, cadets are promoted to Lieutenant. Valkyrian alumni are highly regarded in the field as experienced and innovative soldiers.
Kishin Ramza and Fayt Millenia founded the academy with the latter becoming its first Grand Commandant.
Structure
The Grand Commandant is the head of the institution, serving as the highest authority over curriculum, faculty, recruitment, grounds, and relations. They've been high-rank Atrium military or Intelligence Core officers, Colonel or higher, with decades of experience in a leadership position. They are nominated for the position by their predecessor upon the latter's exit but must be approved by the Nexus Council, who appointed the first. When a new GC starts their term, they either declare a new directive or choose to uphold the previous one made. Sometimes, they will visit classes or meet with students to offer advice.
Under them are two Commandants, one representing the student body and the other for the faculty. They report directly to the Grand Commandant and work together to ensure both groups meet their needs. They are mid-rank officers, either majors or captains, who served with the GC or were selected by them upon entering their term. They can be recommended by a previous commandant, but are ultimately selected by the GC. The Cadet Commandant looks after the welfare of the student body, managing the medical and requisitions groups. They can also act as a Mediator for their mental wellness.
The Faculty Commandant is also referred to as the lead instructor and ensures the rest of the instructors are following the proper curriculum and the training facilities are calibrated and maintained. They observe and review live exercises as well as any changes made. If they have concerns about a cadet(s), they will consult with the Cadet Commandant. Likewise, if the CC finds an issue with a training regimen, they consult with the FC.
Then, there is the Requisitions officer, the Lifework team, the Facilities team, and the Training instructors. The first two report to the CC while the latter go to the FC. The Req Officer is typically a Lieutenant on Home Duty and specializes in acquiring or reacquiring what a cadet might need, including furniture, additional uniforms, training equipment, or even custom items.
The Lifework team ranges the most, in charge of sustenance, medical, and maintenance. They can either be military or civilian.
Culture
Like their axiom, Valkyrian encourages cadets to be unit-cohesive regardless of rank class. Multiple communal areas include the mess hall, the locker rooms, and the open training fields. The dormitory is shared, but classes are separated by floor with C-Class on the highest floor and S-Class at the lowest. There are also various joint exercises where A and S Class will lead B and C or vice versa.
Assets
Outside of the main campus in Central, Valkyrian maintains satellite training centers in Middlegard, Sanctuary, Bastion, and Rusk.
A dedicated pilot controlling transport traffic to and from the campus.
A security force is stationed nearby.
