Ethonian Peacock

"There is something truly stunning about the difference between the Ethonian Peacock and their cousins that roam the Hworen Plains. Ethonian Peacocks have become something of a oddity and therefore many royals and nobles with spare coin wish to own one for their own amusement. Though, it is a steady curiosity of mine whether they purchase them knowing what they are capable of, rather than simply knowing what they can produce." -Markin Kolasterian

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Ethonian Peacocks look almost identical in form to their average peacock cousins, however, there are some very distinct differences that set them apart. The first, most notable difference is that the Ethonian Peacocks stand about two feet taller than their cousins, due to elongated legs which allow them to sprint at high speeds. Because of their legs, the Ethonian Peacocks, have often been mistaken at a distance as Ostriches or Emus. The second, most identifiable traits is their color scheme. The standard peacock's feathers are a range from blue to green, with very little definition otherwise prior to opening their tails. Ethonian Peacocks bear a light orange to golden hue to their feather prior to opening their tails.

Ecology and Habitats

Ethonian Peacocks prefer warmer, more savanna like climates.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Ethonian Peacocks are omnivores, however, are unable to chew their food, thanks to their beaks, therefore, they have to drool over any large piece of food and allow their acidic saliva to break down their food before consuming it.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

The Ethonian Peacocks are bred for a number of reasons. The first and most profitable above the table reason is due to their exotic look, which many nobles have adopted as pets to show off their prestige. When properly trained, they can be quite regal and docile creatures. The most notable resource that can be harvested from the Ethonian Peacocks are their acidic saliva sacks in their throats. This acid can be harvested and used in a number of ways, including medical, industrial, and forging uses. Tempering a blade with Ethonian acid gives the blade a misty look, bringing out the visible folds in the metal. The acid is also incredibly potent, clinging to the metallurgy as if becoming apart of it. It should be noted that Ethonian aicd is the only acidic compound known to be harmful to Green and Brass dragons and their kin.
