The Great Horde Hold

Shortly after Charter Magic left our world there came a great darkness out of Preydor. From the lands of Rhohadar came a mighty swelling of malice and malcontent. A legendary war whose heroes and prosecutors would be lost to time by the failure of those squabbling scholars, whom had not yet come to terms with their records now lost from mere centuries prior. Even so, there are greatmonumaents that echo the history through time in broken and fractured scripts, the greatest of which is the Great Horde Hold.

Purpose / Function

The Great Horde Hold was built as the Crown jewel and stronghold of a legendary Warlord, whose name has been lost to history. It is recorded, however, that this warlord hailed from Rhohador, and when he raised his sword against the Elven Imperium, the longest lived empire learned to fear the war cries of the south. From the Hold, the Warlord gathered and trained armies for his conquest of Preydor. With the backing of his vast ranks, he marched to the shores in all directions, putting down any resistance he encountered and assimilating the whole of Rhohador under his banner. From the Hold, he ruled a growing empire that encompassed all from Shadar Kazahn in the south to the Neck of Preydor. And though the fortress was built to withstand a siege, it never got the chance to, as the war ended without a single foe of the warlord reaching it's boundaries. Now, in the modern age, it serves as a holy ground, not so frequently trodden by the denseness of Rohador and the territories it now has divided into. It is home to the Goken Druids, who keep an eye on the place and prepare it for such a time when clans come to observe a pilgrimage, or to settle disputes before the spirits of the ancestors. Deep within the Keep are laid to rest the bodies of ancient to more recent war-chiefs and clan leaders, who have been given special burial rites to rest alongside their forebears.

Alterations

The biggest alteration to the Hold has to be the lower levels of the structure being relegated to a crypt of long dead war chiefs and recognized warriors of Rhohador.

Architecture

In it's construction, the Great Horde Hold was modeled after the Architecture of the Omparish coast, fueled by the engineering from the Mesomitish tribes of the south. Great stone bricks were hewn from the mountain it was built into to lay the foundations, as other stone was brought in from the surrounding countryside. It was said that the ruler of the Hold brought low the surrounding hills and mountains to build his keep so that no enemy would gain an advantage upon a siege. The Hold was built to resemble that of a Imperial Colosseum, large enough to hold thousands upon thousands in the stands. The citadel climbed with the base of the flanking mountain, the tallest tower climbing higher than even the peak. Set around the Colosseum were a number of domicile and trade based buildings that were elevated on bridge like walkways that led out to the outer wall. Along the outer wall were set large towers of stone, flanked on either side by short, more narrow towers for defense. The sheer size of the structure could hold no less than fifty thousand within the walls comfortably. The Great Horde Hold as it stood in it's day was a great fortress built against the side of the Grukon's Mount. The fortress was, and still is, the largest in Rhohador, even in the modern age, where it has truly fallen into decay. The great stone towers have all but collapsed, and in their places, on the surefooted foundations stand crude wooden towers, half the size. The colloseum is a shadow of it's formerself, however, it is maintained by the druids and wise folk that dwell in the hold and now consider it holy ground. The stone structures do not stand as proudly as they did, many buildings having simply crumbled or collapsed, with little to no intention of rebuilding them.
