Unseen and Unknown
The Unseen and Unknown are agents of the Unseen Assembly, usually the folk who would more commonly be known as assassins, mercvenaries, and other various practical men and women of all species that do the dirty work of the shadow organization. The knowledge of their membership to the organization is kept to a strict secrecy, sometimes even from their own contemporary fellows, but their practices are as varied as their manners, dress, and self ambitions.
To the commone man, the Unseen and Unknown seem little more than a stranger on the road or in the market. Their business is their own. The only commonality to noting a person as one of this unknowable number is by the brandishing, use, and possession of one or more of the even more mysterious iron favor coins.
Qualifications
It can be assumed that those chosen to carry the iron favor and the concealed membership to any place within the Unseen Assembly are experts of a kind in their field. Perhaps connections with high ranking members of the organization as well. No matter what it may be that leads the cabal to seek out, entreat, seduce, annoint, and appoint their Unseen and Unknown is known only to those who do the seeking and the rest.
To be sure, these folk are not to be triffled with. An organization as long lived and far reaching as the Unseen Assembly would not knownly employ the hands of incompetent agents. Lending more creedence to the thought that these agents are experst, even masters, in their fields of choice. It can be surmized that qualifications that can be well sought out are resolve, lyoalty, insight, and skill, of course. Resolve to do what is demanded of them, loyalty to the Unseen Assembly and it's masters, insight to understand their place in the ever expanding network and how best to approach contracts, and skill to be do well what need be done.
This seems arbitrary, but accurate. No one person holds the title of Unseen and Unknown and as stated before, they who hold the title are as varied as the fish in the sea or the glittering gems to be found deep within the Cavern World.
Appointment
As far as can be discerned, the proccess to be welcomed into the ranks of this loose order of contemportaries is as varied as the ranks, with only three similarities. First to be sought out by a ranking member of the organization. Second to be tested, seduced, entreated, third and finally to be handed an iron favor and sworn into the service of the Unseen Assembly. How one endures and interacts with these three steps differs from initiate to initiate.
Duties
As stated many times in referrence to the Unseen Assembly, it is a shadow organization with machinations for control of the world, as herculean of a task that may seem. Such a task requires hands to perform any contract as needed, whether that is moving assets from one place to another, eliminating rivals or road blocks that often take the form of other persons, and other activities that would, to most, seem illicit. These people, these Unseen and Unknown are called upon frequently to carry out these tasks and many more unspecified contracts on a daily basis, leading anyone to believe that those sworn iron dealers are willing participants in global conspiracy and high treason.
Benefits
Through the careful brandishing of the iron favor and the even more careful use of their title in the ears of aligned persons, the Unseen and Unknown do seem to enter into a new life where most if not all of their needs can be easily met. It is the intention of the Unseen Assembly to ensure their groups goals are achieved quickly and efficienty and having well provided for employees tends to keep that work going at an agreeable pace.
How the Unseen and Unknown choose to capitalize on their benefits is left up to them, but really they need only ask to be handed anything they may need, so long as it will, in the long term, benefit the Unseen Assembly.
Accoutrements & Equipment
The most notable item carried by the Unseen and Unknown would be the iron favor, an octagonal iron coin with a variety of intricate etched designs on either face. This acts as not only a badge of office, but also a form of currency the Unseen and Unknown use to parley and bargain for goods and services from the Seen but Unknown, the tradesmen and women on the Unseen Assembly's payroll, whose only job is to carry on their daily lives and support the active agents however they can.
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
To date, there is no record of one who has retired from their position as an Unseen and Unknown to rest on their laurels with grace and pention. Perhaps such a benefit does exist, but from what has been uncovered, nothing has been written about it. The nature of the role in the organization instills a great deal of emphasis on maintaining secrecy and discretion in all things surrounding the work. Long years of devotion can often win the trust of colleagues and superiors, but it does not win silence the same way a blade can.
It is a grim fate what awaitrs those who accept the title and the accompanying iron favor. Poor fools probably don't fully comprehend what they are agreeing to when signing on. Such a contract of service is binding for life, only death releases them from their sacred and shaded trust.
