Sylvan Rebellion (SIL·vin)

The Sylvan Rebellion (SIL·vin) or known locally as the Great Resistance, was the short skirmish between the wood elves of Lothriel and select forces from the Ellorían Senate after the assassination of Kellek Mons.

The Conflict

Prelude

On the third of May during the second year of the Fifth Age, the Senator Kellek Mons was assassinated in his chamber within the Ellorían Senate. The forest kingdom of Lothriel was adamant that the Senate provide financial aid and support to the ruined dwarven kingdom of Khur Khaldûr. The rest of the realm was very much against the notion of any kind of financial support to rebuild the kingdom out of fear that they might simply reload their forces after the Centurion Wars and fight again; Lothriel felt leaving them on their own would only result in the dwarves feeling spiteful and abandoned.
The senator Kellek Mons was head of the chamber during this time and he was set to vote no on the support of Khur Khaldûr. Before the Congress came into session, Mons was assassinated in his chamber.

The unfortunate timing of the assassination led the other members of the Senate to suspect that Lothriel was responsible for the murder. It was also claimed that the assassin was wearing the mask of the Gilded Stag, the ancient symbol of the Lothlór forest. The representatives from Lothriel adamantly denied any and all claims that they had a hand in the killing, but the Senate seemingly had their mind made up.

Deployment

In the following couple weeks, the Kova Vanguard amassed a few thousand armed forces throughout the realm to begin an occupation of Lothriel so they could perform an in-depth investigation of the incident; this was obviously met with heavy resistance from the wood elf locals.
Having just recently defended their borders from the dwaven Centurions of Khur Khaldûr during the Centurion WarsLothriel elves were well trained and ready for deployment at a moments notice.

Battlefield

The entire skirmish was fought within the Lothlór forest, the wood elves would never meet the invaders outside of their borders. Being an extremely dense and innately magical forest, the incoming occupiers were at a wild disadvantage.

The Engagement

Despite the forces sent from the Ellorian Senate having greater numbers, Lothriel won essentially every combat encounter that occurred during the invasion. The wood elves fought in their natural habitat with the aid of fey creatures and woodland spirits.

Outcome

Defending their homeland and fending off the invaders, Lothriel managed to never become occupied. In doing so, no true conclusion to the assassination attempt was ever found and mostly remains an unsolved mystery to this day.

Aftermath

In the centuries since, Lothriel has remained a member of the Ellorían Senate to maintain their representation within the realm. However, they have remained in a state of solitude. Few visitors are permitted in and seldom do the locals leave.

Historical Significance

Historians view this invasion as a blemish upon the history of the realm and its kingdoms. Although the assassination of Kellen Mons has remained unsolved, the way of going about the situation was handled entirely wrong and hastily. To this day, the wood elves of Lothlór hold a grudge against the Kova Vanguard for being the ones to hastily organize such a crusade fueled by mob mentality.

Legacy

This conflict was the catalyst for Lothriel isolationism. One of the few good things to result from this incident was ultimately the agreement from the Ellorían Senate to begin the construction of Tronjheim so those seeking refuge had a new home to go to.
To this day, the Kova Vanguard still recognizes some form of blame to Lothriel despite the lack of evidence.
