The Lightbearer

A long time ago, the Drow and Duergar were an enslaved race. This belief that the Drow and Duergar were to be subservient was more a belief held by the ancient major civilisations such as Moryanen. It was only near the beginning of the Genesis era, roughly between the years 18-24 GA, did a rebellion led by Zorya Cormryn, a Drow mercenary, manage to emancipate the city.
According to the tales, Zorya was originally a courtesan belonging to a merchant in Moryanen. When he and his household migrated to the colony of Desval, now Xukuth, he brought Zorya with him. Zorya was exposed to the horrors of the oppressive regime in what was then the Northmost frontier. Drow and Duergar, amongst others, forced into slavery to build the city and to mine deeper into the mountain.
Zorya then became a member of the rebellion, quickly becoming a leader and beacon of hope for the enslaved peoples of Desval, eventually making use of the fall of Moryanen to overthrow the local government. Desval was renamed Xukuth when Zorya became its first Queen.
Slavery still exists in present-day Elyria, but the conditions of those enslaved peoples are leagues better than they were in Zorya’s time.
