Zolena - Queen of Darkness

Zolena (zoh-LAY-nuh) is goddess of Darkness, Loss, Night, and the Void. Zolena was born to a race of ancient humans and was one of their leaders until her ascension.

Presently, Zolena is actually two beings, the original, trapped within her realm of Evergloam, and a twin of her own creation, made to contain the last semblances of her sanity. The Twin calls herself the "Nightmother."

Relationships

Zolena is the sister of Selena. Zolena has a tenuous alliance with Surtr as her drive to bring about the end of everything conflicts with his prophesy to bring about Ragnarok and restart the cycle of creation.

Because Zolena wishes to bring about the end of time and, literally, everything she is generally hated among all the gods. However, she comes to conflict most with Elys, who wishes to preserve creation as it is, and Asmodeus, who wishes to rule all of creation. Above all, she despises the Nightmother, a part of herself she cast out who transformed into a deity in her own right.

Zolena despises her sister, but the sentiment is not mutual. In fact, Selena wishes to redeem her sister, and show her the benefits of life, light, and creation.

Appearance

Zolena appears as a human woman with pitch black hair, eyes like a void with swirling embers, and pale skin. She wears a dress as black as the void with some trims of dark purple. She is usually depicted holding her bastard sword in her right hand whilst twisting shadows with her left.

Church of Zolena

As the goddess of darkness and one who wants to end all creation, Zolena does not have many worshippers outside of her church. Those that are not part of the church are typically disillusioned people who have been fed false promises of power by the church, so that they can gain their support as a spy.

Clergy

Zolena’s church is surprisingly large, but that is mostly because all of her followers who can fight in Zolena’s name, are pressed to do so by the clergy. Unlike most churches, the leaders of Zolena’s faithful are her Forsworn, dark channelers to whom she has granted much favor to. Below them are her other divinely gifted peoples. Zolena grants powers to all who will serve her, as the contract that grants them power promises their souls to her, ensuring their unwavering loyalty.

Above all else, anonymity is the most important thing to her followers, as they infiltrate other churches and political organizations to undermine, or even take them over. Because of this anonymity, Zolena’s clergy does not have any official attire, though, when they do meet up, they mask their faces and wear hooded robes of dark purple or black, so the only thing you can tell at a glance is their race and gender.

Temples and Shrines

Because of the anonymity of Zolena’s faithful, they have no temples or shrines. Her followers all worship her in secret so as to not reveal their dark intentions. However, some more organized places for her worshipers to meet are the necropoleis and ruins that dot Jalirûn.
