Chapter 4: Lost & Found

General Summary

When last we met our group they had just sprung a young boy from jail on the night of the 24th of Laeroth. The excitement of the night led to some intense dreams, some better than others.   They then made their way from just outside of Veybjorn to Holmfast over a period of a few days, pushing their horses more than before. They were able to discern after finding a camp that they were perhaps gaining on the group they were tracking. There seemed to be some blood and scuffle there, but they were unable to discern much more. The trail became more difficult to follow as it foot traffic picked up the closer they got to Holmfast.   Holmfast is a small city, slightly bigger than Veybjorn. It is populated by mainly Dwarves but with a noticeably more diverse population than the previous town on this route. There is one noticeable difference in the population. It is home to a large population of Leshy with many oceanic traits. They seem to be comprised or seaweed that is almost braided together, some with sea anemones, sea stars, mollusks, and other sea creatures attached to them. The city is surrounded by a low wall that is sometimes guarded. The reason for this wall surrounding the city is because of the town's main trade. The city surrounds a V-shaped area of water jutting in from the ocean with a few bridges crossing it. Oysters are cultivated in this miniscule bay and harvested by the denizens. They are then opened and the pearls within are taken. The oysters are then seeded and released back into the bay. The leshy often help in the seeding process and the harvesting process as they can withstand being in the water for long periods of time.   Upon reaching the city they found out a group of travellers, presumably the folks they were tracking, were only a short distance ahead of them. Instead of staying the night at The Polished Pearl, the inn, they decided to continue forward. However, they made a brief stop to refresh their rations at The Clapping Clam. The owner informed them that there was a woman down the street who would let them open oysters for 1 silver and have the chance to keep the pearls within. Inhe found a small pearl, Lenihlra found a medium sized pearl, and Jacquora found an incredibly rare pearl, said to be blessed by Gozreh. Jacquora's Pearl, or The Pearl of Gozreh, is said to be blessed by the deity themselves, and provides the wearer with a boost to their attack rolls. The woman refused to buy the pearl and instead offered to turn it into a piece of jewelry, a necklace, for Jacquora to wear. They also noticed a leshy unlike the rest in the town passing by. Covered in vines and ripe cloudberries, he stood out. They found Nimbus, Linn Millea's leshy familiar, being ferried about town by a group of oceanic leshy.   After this, the party made their way out of the city and rested for the night. They found a patch of mushrooms that granted them a boost to their health. The next day, on the 31st of Laeroth, they caught up to their tracked group. Jacquora, tracking ahead, was able to find them, gathered around a fire, and seemingly fighting. She found that there were three human men and one human woman. After grouping back with the rest of the party, they made their way to their foes. After a short exchange, a fight ensued.   Inhe was able to quickly knock out one of the individuals, who appeared somewhat hurt already. Another individual was knocked out by the party. Falaern, seemingly overtaken with anger, grabbed the unconsious individual and ensured his swift death. The final man proved harder to kill. As a magic user, he was able to cast many spells, injuring some of our heros quite badly.   Sensing that the fight was coming to a close, he cast Dimension Door and, with a nod and a smile, disappeared. As he slipped away into the rip of reality behind him with a swish of his red cloak, several of the party were able to notice that the golden-haired man had a large scar across his face.   With one of the other men still alive, but unconscious, the group gathered together to decide on questions with which to interrogate him.
Kore Trillo, "The Pearl Harvest," Oil on Canvas, 12 in x 18 in, 359 A.U. Currently housed in the National Museum of Emaniquora in Lorisen.     "A beautiful painting of the pearl harvest in the city of Holmfast. Holmfast, a small town along the northern coast of Glennola Bay, is the pearl harvesting capital of the Empire. It is estimated that 80 percent of all pearls are found here. Much of the pearl jewelry is made here as well, with skilled craftspeople spending their entire lives perfecting their craft. Notable examples of Holmfast pearl jewelry can be found on the third floor in Room 311. The most impressive in our collection would be a pair of matched pearl and sapphire earrings owned by the first High Chancelor, Utha Salgror."   Description given by the Curator of Luxury Goods, Rhel Shordo
