Goliath

A race of half giants that live in various places within Ember. They are generally a peace loving, though very competitive race, and are very lawful. And while they will generally refrain from making the first move, they will defend their home with an intensity that would surprise even the most hardy attackers. They are more often than not beholden to a deep seated legal or honor code, and shift their competitiveness and combativeness to ritualized, legalistic dueling and militant challenges. Goliaths love games and competitions in any form. Any sort of competition, from sports to gladiation to card games to the court of law, is the Goliath's domain. Their sense of honor results in obeyed rules and fair play. Despite their legalism, they desire plainness of speech and abhor sophistry.

Social Structure

Goliaths in tribal societies will take the strongest among them as their leader, but those who have gathered in larger communities will always have strict yet simple codes of law that dictate the assent of a new leader. Often this is a trail by combat, or some sort of other competition.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Goliaths prefer living high in the mountains, and while they are largely tribal, some great Goliath cities such as Hamu-Rak have been raised on the peaks of high mountains.

Civilization and Culture

History

Goliaths have always been a more solitary race, but when the dragon empires rose, they opted to join with them and accept the protection and order that was provided. Many great Goliath cites rose in those days, but few remain now. The Goliaths where split when the Imperium war erupted, and they fought against others of their kind as often as not. Few of their great cites, built into the greatest mountains peaks, survived the war, and few still survived the cataclysmic events that ushered in the new age. Now Goliaths are a rare race, mostly living in small tribes deep in the mountains.

Goliaths enjoy marking their skin with tattoos representing their greatest achievements.
