Lunar

Standing as the second largest city in the little kingdom, the city of swans is a place of great diversity and beauty. It is the trade hub of the Sylic vale, and as such, many merchants and craftsmen call its sprawling streets home.

Demographics

Lunar has the largest percent of non human residence of any city in the Little Kingdom. Its position as the central hub of the Sylic vale attracts a large human population from trade routes across the Embershade Sea, but also allows for ease if settlement for the natives of the Sylic vale, being largely Dwarves, Elfs, halflings and gnomes. The city is about 40% human, 20% dwarven, 15% elven, and the rest of the population is split between the rarer races such as halflings, gnomes, dragonborns, shifters, teiflings, and so on. The city consists of a large middle class, being comprised largely of craftsmen and merchants, with a small upper class of wealthy guild leaders and nobles. The lower classes consist of fishermen, farmers, and craftsmen of less lucrative craft.

Government

The city of Lunar, being a part of the Embershade pact, has feudal ties to the king in Hearth Home. However, Lunar's founding predates that of the Embershade pact, and while technically the rule of Lunar and the lands round about decided by a vote of the local nobles, townmasters, and guild leaders, the title has stayed within the same family for hundreds of years. The current ruler is Lady Lothiel, the daughter of lord Byorin. It is she who represents Lunar in the Embershade Counsel, though unlike many other representatives, she makes her home permanently in Lunar rather than Hearth Home, and rules as the governor of the providence.

Defences

The city of Lunar is protected by a large wall surrounding the entire city, except for the docks, known as the swanport district. Likewise, walls surround the Castle district as well as Tethyrs gate district. The walls boast watch towers and other defensive measures, and are manned by a the city guard at all hours of the day and night. A more elite task force directly under the leadership of the city also exists, known as the swan guard. These knights of Lunar are called out to oppose large disturbances and threats to the city and surrounding lands. The Order of the Twin Gods also maintains a small presence in the Tethyrs Gate District to help defend the church and put a stop to threats from the cult of the Chained God and other evil entities.

Industry & Trade

The City of Lunar is quite wealthy. Its major imports are raw materials such as lumber, ore, stone, uncut gems, etc. It also imports much of its metal from Hammerhome., and most of its food comes from without as well. It exports Fish, pearls, crafted goods, artisans goods, Jewelry, arms and armor, art, textiles, etc.

Infrastructure

Lunar is a city of great beauty and cleanliness, priding itself on its advanced (and somewhat magical) sewage system, magical street lamps, impressive city guard, and large cast of craftsmen. Any infrastructure that could be expected within a city exists in Lunar.

Guilds and Factions

The factions in Lunar consist largely of the governing nobles, the church, and the guilds. The most powerful guilds in Lunar are the merchants guild and the artisans guild. Other guilds exist as well, including crafters guilds, a fishers guild, shipwrights guild, and so on. The Cult of the Chained God has a secret following in Lunar as well.

History

Lunar was founded in the year 121 of the age of Awakening by humans from Hearth Home. They quickly befriended the elves and dwarves in the area, and worked together to defend each other from threats from the blackwood. Lunar has been one of the staunchest advocates of the Embershade alliance, and was the first to agree to join the Little Kingdom. To this day the leaders of Lunar, descendants of those first settlers, hold much sway in the circles of the Kingdom, and command much respect from all its inhabitants.

Architecture

The city of Swans in known throughout the Little Kingdom for its great beauty. The roads are formed of granite brick quarried from the Dragon Guard mountains, and many of the buildings are built of marble and fine woods, carved and created to serve as aesthetically pleasing as well as functioning. Lunar's architects and builders are considered some of the best in the known world, and are employed in other cites when any sort of grand monument is being erected. Lunar is full of statues depicting great heroes and rulers from times gone by, as well as other things. A favorite depiction is that of a swan, due to the birds seasonal migration to the waters just outside of the city in the spring and summer. Another favorite depiction is that of the lady of the moon, Lunar. Her's is an ancient tale told by the elves long before the breaking of the world, and the coming of humans. Many of the same images are carved into the walls and floors of buildings, the streets of the city, and even the city gates.

Geography

Lunar was founded on the fertile western coast of the Embershade Sea, giving it ready access to food and pearls, as well as trade routes to other cities. Its fertile land to the north is farmed extensively outside of its walls, and is fed by the Amber river that flows down from the DragonGuard Mountains and into the Embershade just outside of its walls. Directly to the south and west of the city lies large swaths of brush land where hunting is popular among both the rich and poor, though it is also a good hiding place for bandits and other criminals.

Natural Resources

Lunar, being built on the coast, has a ready supply of fish and pearls. it also sits near the fertile lands next to the Amber River, and takes advantage of that. The brush lands to the west and south are often used for hunting, and cattle and sheep are often raised by ranchers there.
