Paladine
(a.k.a. Bahamut, The Platinum Dragon, The King of Dragons)
The Platinum Dragon is recognized as both a deity and a ruler over dragonkind. He is also referred to as the Lord of the North Wind. In his natural form, Paladine is depicted as a massive, long and sinuous dragon with silver-white scales and blue, catlike eyes.
Paladine's Influence
Among humanoids Bahamut is recognized as the god of justice, honor, rulers and guardians. Paladine values faithfulness in oaths and bonds. Courtroom testimony, pacts between nations, and certain marriage ceremonies are sworn in his name, to evoke a timeless solemnity to the vow. As the god of laws that govern society, he is interested not only in punitive justice, but also in the establishment of fair and equitable relationships among people and god, in service to the common good. He also takes an interest in the bonds of family and relationships which tie people closely together.Worshipping Paladine
Through his connection to justice and rulers, nearly everyone pay some level of respect to the dragon god in forms of worship that range from simple gestures to days-long celebrations.Dogma
Paladine is very stern and disapproving of evil. He accepts no excuses for foul deeds, but is also compassionate and empathetic for the weak and downtrodden. He urges his followers to promote good, but to leave people to fight their own battles when the can, providing healing, information or safe refuge rather than fighting alongside those who can fight for themselves. For a dragon, Paladine is known to be neither vain nor greedy. He prefers his followers to worship him with deeds, not objects. Likewsie, he values wisdom, knowledge, prophecies, and songs instead.Ideals of the Faith
Following Paladine means devoting yourself to the cause of law and justice. In fact, champions of Bahamut are sometimes more constant in their pursuit of those ideals than the god himself.- Devotion - My devotion to my god is more important to me than what he stands for.
- Honor - I behave nobly and always keep my promises
- Enforcement - Those who violate laws that hold civilization together must be punished.
- Justice - The purpose of law is to establish fair and equitable relationships among people and gods.
Myths of Paladine
Fizban - About a quarter of the time, Bahamut wanders the material plane in the guise of his humanoid avatar, frequently depicted as an ineffective wizard accompanied by seven gold canaries. Other recorded guises included that of a prince with a carriage drawn by seven horses, an urchin accompanied by seven friends, a beggar followed by seven dogs, a humble fisher or a young monk who bear the title of the "Grandmaster of Flowers". The Banishment of Tiamat - Many myths claim that Tiamat lived for a long time on the material plane, seeding it with evil dragons and dar. magic. Eventually she was banished to the Nine Hells by Bahamut and a sky/sun god. Bahamut's Rebirth - Bahamut infuses certain chosen warriors with a portion of his divinity. Should his divine form be destroyed, these vesels may act as incubators for his divine spark, allowing Paladine to be reborn to the world under the right conditions. Valthonis - When Tiamat was first exiled to the Nine Hells, Paladine took up mortal form as an elf named Valthonis. In this form he wandered all over Emergo, spreading the word of peace and trying to offer his wisdom to all. While his followers came and went, Valthonis always had a retinue of faithful. By gathering these followers, he re-ascended to godhood and resumes his role as Paladine.Temples / Seats of Worship
Outside Sirastir, temples to the Platinum Dragon are very rare. Those few that exist are beautiful, elegant edifices characterized by clean, simple architecture and furnishings. Within most palaces and government buildings there will be at least a small shrine to Paladine. In Altarfell, Paladine's temple retains every bit of it's solemn magnificence despite the taint that permeates the city. A long reflecting pool lined by oak trees leads to a pagoda supported by fluted columns. The shrine is a favored spot for young lovers with its serene surroundings.Paladine's Champions
- Knights of Paladine
- Prince Luctor of Argyle
- The Seven Great Gold Wyrms are the closest of Bahamut's servants, guarding his palace and escort him disguised as canaries when he is traveling the world. They also are emissaries of Bahamut in tasks that don't demand Bahamut's personal attention. Although powerful, they are not immortal: many gold wyrms in the circle have died, and new gold dragons are chosen to replace them. These are the current seven great gold wyrms: Borkadd the Claw, a male gold dragon, is Bahamut's hand of justice. He is sent to enforce the law when there is no alternative. Kurya the Eye, a suspicious female gold dragon. She is the spy of Bahamut, sent on tasks that demand secrecy. Sonngrad the Wing, a female gold dragon who is the messenger of Bahamut. Gruemar the Voice, a male gold dragon, is a negotiator who prefers peaceful words over bloodshed. Marroshok the Tail, a massive male gold dragon, is the bodyguard of Bahamut. Though he is a merciless warrior, he is usually friendly and genial. Troannaxia the Presence, a female shining gold dragon, who with her intimidating presence is sent to subdue resistance when nothing else will suffice. Urgala the Fang, a female gold dragon who serves as a leader and chief tactician when Bahamut musters an army.
