Burkhart Kreutzwald
Grandmaster Burkhart Kreutzwald
Burkhart Kreutzwald has dedicated his entire, lengthy life to the service of the Monastic Brotherhood. Originally he was a simple farmer from a small northern Columban village on the border with the Badlands. An orc raid came across the border and destroyed his village, sending Kreutzwald and his parents fleeing south, with the orcs in hot pursuit. They were rescued by a Brotherhood training patrol, but at only the age of none, Kreutzwald killed two of the orcs, protecting his father and mother. Recognizing his potential, the Brotherhood recruited him as an acolyte.
Kreutzwald spent only the minimum two years as an acolyte and quickly rose to become a vanguard. As vanguard he was a prodigy in combat, learning exotic techniques and methods of fighting. He also proved a loyal warrior, obeying orders without question, and slaying some of the worst monsters the Brotherhood had faced. His greatest victory came in the badlands as the Brotherhood pursued a band of orc raiders that had somehow recruited a full clan of trolls to serve alongside them. Despite their abilities of regeneration, Kreutzwald managed to slay six trolls single-handedly after the rest of his party had been killed or wounded. This victory caused his elevation to crusader, and he continued to maintain an exemplary record.
In 1003, the old Grandmaster passed away, and with his stellar reputation, and recent injury in a fight against a werewolf, Kreutzwald was looking for a chance to stay behind at the Cathedral more often. He put his name in for the position and he was acclaimed by a near unanimous vote of confidence from his peers. As Grandmaster, he has mostly avoided the political game of Jakonia and Columba, instead, focusing the Brotherhood's efforts on their main purpose: the destruction of monsters.
