Curse of the Medusas

The Curse of the Medusas discusses at length the creatures known to have snakes for hair and turn people to stone with their gaze. Rodis tells the tale of the first medusas and how they were created by a demon-worshiping cult deep in the Apps Mountains. Allegedly, they were cursed by the gods when they attempted to use the demon to gain immortality over four hundred years ago. They succeeded in that particular goal, but were inflicted with an abhorrent visage that could turn the unwary into stone. The cult quickly dispersed and fled into remote areas, constantly on the hunt for anyone who could withstand the curse and look upon them. They are occasionally rooted out in large cities, undertaking elaborate disguises or in caves deep in the wilderness.
