Elf

There are two types of Elves in Emicara. The high elves are the ones who have integrated into human society, holding onto the same customs and frequently involved in trade and finance. They have long and strong family ties in most human kingdoms which allow them to conduct business on a continental scale with their extended families. As such, they have been constantly persecuted among the human kingdoms, and are a useful scapegoat for many rulers. The forest elves are a reclusive bunch, who reside in the once hidden kingdom of Tenashi.

Elves in D&D Fifth Edition

Use character creation methods as provided in the Player's Handbook for the creation of elf characters in Emicara. Drow are not currently known as a race in Emicara, but there is always a possibility that there is another continent or far away land in which they reside. Similarly, elves beyond the ones provided in the Handbook and the drow are also exceedingly rare, but with a good story, anything is possible.

Civilization and Culture

Major Language Groups and Dialects

All elves speak their ancient language of Elven, which has been preserved in its original form for thousands of years. This allows them to conduct more private business, and most of the world's financial records are written in this language. It is only used as a primary language among the people of the Tenashi Kingdom, as the high elves typically use Common for day to day affairs and conversation.

History

The elves were once said to dominate much of the world, taking from humans and other races whatever they chose, whenever they chose, striking from a hidden demiplane that they lived within, and building only outposts to inflict their will upon the world of Emicara. They possessed great cities and works of magic and architecture which would cow even the greatest achievements of the Nameless Empire. Then, millennia ago, the gates they held failed, and their people became isolated and separated. Humans and dwarves fought wars and rebellions against the elves, and with a much lower birthrate, the elves diminished. The humans thrived while the elves sat in what was left of their citadels, praying that no further vengeance would fall upon them.   The collapse of the Nameless Empire offered elves the opportunity to return back into society. The so-called high elves found that their knowledge and skills were welcomed among humans needing to rebuild. Their ancient hoards of elven treasure helped bring the high elves into lofty financial heights, bringing the wealth needed to stabilize currency and pay for workers. The high elves quickly became rich and lived high and mighty, but quietly, within human civilization. They have particularly thrived within the lands of the Jakonian Empire and have been the primary financial beneficiaries of the Empire's expansion over the centuries. They are often mistrusted by the lower classes who view them as leeches of hard work and labor.   The high elves had entered into society, many elves remained hidden in dark woods and distant lands. The forest elves kept their traditions and structures, keeping their location a tightly held secret. They refused to engage or respond until a dwarven rebellion in Alsona led to a search for desperate allies. Seeing a chance to meet the humans on equal footing, the forest elves allied with the dwarves, aiding in their rebellion and the creation of an independent society, bringing the Tenashi back out into the light.
