Haakon Nors
Chief Haakon Nors
Haakon Nors began his life as a blacksmith's apprentice for one of the many who supplied the Nors tribe with iron goods and supplies. He spent his childhood hauling goods from place to place, and aiding in the forge whenever possible. As he grew into an adult, he took up the mantle of blacksmith himself, an essential service to most of the tribe. He continued to avoid forging weapons and armor, choosing instead to remain focused upon goods that improve lives, rather than ending them. In time he made a family and a life, and occasionally sold goods to travelers and wanderers that would pass through the Nors encampment.
Everything changed late in Haakon's life in 1019 AF, when the Nors tribe was viciously attacked by seemingly unending hordes of undead from the north. Haakon was forced to turn his expertise to items that would aid in his people's defense. Rather than building weapons, however, he chose instead to build spikes and nails, that could be used to create fortifications and traps. He even created a few iron traps of his own devising, aiding the tribe in fending off the assaults that came. His efforts saved many lives without ever putting fell Nor in danger.
The death of the tribe's chief before the siege was lifted led to Haakon becoming the new chief of the Nors people. An election was held, and his no-nonsense approach to affairs led many to support his ascendancy. Those eligible to vote remembered how his craftsmanship and ingenuity saved lives, and in 1020, he became chief. Unfortunately, it was at this time that the Sypi Civil War broke out, and Haakon was obligated to support the Bienombes in their fight against the Church of the One Sun and the Sihkas. He did not lead the tribe into the fight, but he did work on making sure the tribe's warriors were properly supported.
The stigma of not serving directly in the war has stuck with Haakon since the fighting stopped, and many of the tribe's members are resentful at his relative uselessness in the position. Still, the position is guaranteed until death, but some have suggested Haakon resign so that a more worthy leader can take his place. So far, Haakon has refused these claims, advocating that he must remain to help preserve the fragile peace that exists in the Confederacy.
