House Abegg
House Abegg is a Columban noble house that has traditionally ruled in western Columba. At one point they were the preeminent noble house in northern Jakonia, with their family members leading a variety of towns and communities. Eventually the holdings of the family diminished over the course of Jakonia's fall, and they rarely were able to maintain much of their holdings, choosing the wrong side in numerous conflicts. Now, it has gained some measure of respect back with the actions of its current head, leading the town of Epsilo.
Public Agenda
House Abegg has established itself within a position as a minor house in the current state of Columban political affairs. They have expressed little desire to the rule the nation, but instead to play the role of mediator between the other houses of the nation. The efforts have proven mostly successful, as the current head has developed a reputation for reconciliation and incorruptibility in negotiations.
Assets
The house has very little left in the way of actual material assets. The treasury of the house was bankrupted long ago, with severe mismanagement by the regency for the current lord of the house. The loss of these funds was devastating and the leader of House Abegg lives in surprisingly modest accommodations in Epsilo, when he's not serving the Adalsrat in Leesburg.
History
House Abegg is a younger house among the Columban people. Their annals trace back their ancestry to the Nameless Empire, but fail to claim any lofty position there. It was after the Enclave War that the Abeggs settled in Epsilo, and their service to the Emperors helped establish them as landed lords through military efforts. The house thrived for a time, and the Abeggs managed to gain control of much of the eastern Emerald Coast. Unfortunately, the fall of the Jakonian Empire brought about rapid decline in the fortunes of the family. The western territories they held were lost to Forardi rebels, and then their Columban holdings were besieged by rival lords after they failed to declare in support of the Great Northern Rebellion. Despite being on the side of the Emperors, the Abeggs were allowed to retain their holdings within and around Epsilo. A proceeding of incompetent and corrupt leaders in the decades that followed led to the loss of their cash reserves, and the Abeggs were left nearly destitute until the current head of the house, Gunther managed to revitalize the fortunes of the family and gain political support within the Adalsrat.
