Gunther Abegg
Chairman Gunther Abegg
Gunther Abegg was born to a family in decline. House Abegg has recently suffered ample misfortunes, and his mother died in childbirth with him. His father died of heartbreak less than a year later, and Gunther became head of the House and a Lord as an infant. A regency was established for him, which proved corrupt, draining the wealth of Epsilo, which should have been substantially more profitable as a border town with Forard. Gunther realized the corruption around him at an incredibly young age, and despite his youth, he outmaneuvered his local political opponents and managed to become a lord independent of his counselors at the age of thirteen. Since then he has trained and educated himself, growing into his position as he has aged.
Gunther has proved adept at finding skilled individuals to lead the town of Epsilo and the surrounding areas, and managed to bring some respect and prosperity back to the region. More importantly, he has managed to craft a persona as a political outsider, making himself a person that appears easily controlled, but at the same time respected. As debates reared up among rival families, he was able to negotiate himself into the position of Chairman of the Adalsrat in 1038, the youngest ever to assume the highest office in Columba outside of the monarch himself. His age is deceptive, and he continues to be the most skilled political manipulator in the kingdom.
