Jon Smit

High Commander Jon Smit

Jon Smit is a man of mystery even to those who he considers friends within the River Watch. According to records of the Watch, he volunteered for service at the age of 16 in 1000 AF, but those who knew him at the time claim that he seemed younger than he wrote. Regardless of his true year of birth, he aged quickly while in the service of the Watch, and became highly involved in the defeats of several notorious giants. His ferocity in battle and skill in combat became renowned throughout the entire Watch, and even those outside in the Confederacy became aware of his heroism. He moved up quickly though the ranks and in 1020 AF, he was the clear successor to High Commander.   He became High Commander shortly before the Sypi Civil War and he did his best to keep the River Watch out of the conflict. The actions of the Burrow Keep garrison led to the Watch being dragged into the conflict despite his best efforts, and he refused to leave Old Crossing Keep and participate in the war himself. He loudly denounced the actions of the Bienombes and Sihkas alike, and has remained a political opponent of the High Chief to this day. This has made fund raising more difficult since the endo f the war, but Jon Smit remains stubbornly dedicated solely towards the slaying of as many giants as possible. There has been some recent talk in which he has advocated for a scouting expediiton across the Sypi River, to be led by him personally.
