Lycanthropy in Emicara
Published by the Church of the One Sun, this book acts as a hunter’s guide for the Fellowship of the Palms. Information is provided in detail about signs of a lycanthrope and the various types known throughout Emicara, including werebears, werewolves, and wererats. The book states that a lycanthrope can only be permanently killed by silver weapons or fire. They retain no scars and can regenerate damage over time, with more significant damage taking more time to recover from. They can, however, die of natural deaths through old age, despite being apparently immune to all disease. Kent lastly insists that no medicinal cure exists, and that a lycanthrope must be purged, lest the virus spread to other members of civilized society.
The book states that only the stoutest and toughest of individuals have been known to resist the curse when bitten, but that the vast majority of bites lead to a new lycanthrope. The book states that while there is no known cure at this stage of the curse, the afflicted individual can be killed as long as it is done before their first transformation. A week before the first transformation, the accursed will begin suffering nightmares, and two days before the next full moon, an unnatural fever will set upon them. After the first transformation, the individual will continue to change at each full moon, losing control and rampaging, killing every living thing in sight until killed or dawn. A lycanthrope is said to be able to gain control over their transformations after a significant but unknown amount of time as a werebeast or if they were born to two lycanthrope parents.
