Segrurm Gatekeeper

Commander Segrurm Gatekeeper

Segrum Rustbreath was very young by dwarven standards when his family was forced to flee their homes in the Apps Mountains. The exile from their old stronghold led them to the Kingdom of Alsona, but his parents were slain by the journey as orc raiders and bandits inflicted a heavy toll upon the refugees. He ultimately chose to settle in the town of Teva, where many of the dwarves fleeing from the Apps ended up. He had no significant skills from his prior life, and thus found it difficult to find employment among the Alsonans. His siblings did somewhat better, but he ultimately fell in with the Vovoi.   He spent nearly forty years among the Vovoi, serving as muscle for the criminal operations of the Panagoupolus Family. Segrum performed well in his chosen career and managed to live a comfortable lifestyle as an enforcer, finding a wife and settling down with a growing home. Unfortunately, he was assigned to kidnap a local merchant to extort favor from the victim's family, but local guards caught on to the scheme and Segrum was arrested in 978 AF. Segrum was sentenced for the crime of kidnapping to local imprisonment for twenty years, a pittance for a dwarf.   The creation of Wingo Mine in 988 changed everything for Segrum, as he was transferred to the new prison, and his family was forced by the government to relocate with him. He was thrown into the depths of the mine along with many other prisoners from other towns and communities, and set to work mining. As one of the first prisoners of Wingo Mine, Segrum became close friends and allies with Dalmus Grimboot, and as time passed, they began making plans for the future. Segrum was never released on schedule, and forced to continue labor long after his term of service ended, breaking free only when the Wingo Revolution began in 1021.   Segrum served as a hardened leader for Dalmus during the war, leading raiding parties and expeditions into the east, with mixed successes. His service after the conflict led to the new dwarf king appointing him as the head of Lexin Keep, and his family as the clan designated to maintain the citadel. His family took upon the name "Clan Gatekeeper" as a marker of their new position Segrim's family moved to Lexin Keep and with numerous families now associated to the clan's name, they have prospered. They have been charged with keeping the prisoners of the new nation, both from war and crime, being paid handsomely for the challenge. Segrem is believed by some to still have ties to the Vovoi, although no one is certain which family he may be working for.
