Vance grew up in a small village, the son of a blacksmith. Life was rough on the outskirts of civilization, but it was simple. Upon coming of age, he served in the local lord's army, learning to be a soldier and to fight. He attained the rank of captain after eight years, but was released and returned to his village and family. His parents passed soon after, and he took up his father's smithy, but he longed for something grander.
A handful of centaurs crossed into human lands and began attacking outlying farms. Vance led a small group of militia that drove the centaurs away, and he personally took down their leader, earning him renown in the eyes of the villagers.
When the call came from Gordon to take on the Centaur King, Vance knew that fate was moving, and he was ready to answer.
