Vladimir Caramitru
Commander Vladimir Caramitru
Vladimir Caramitru was born to parents who were deeply involved in the bureaucracy of the Bamardi Home Army in Dozier. Although technically they were soldiers, they had not received any sort of combat experience or glory, seeking instead a humble and modest life within the halls of administration. Vladimir himself was provided with an education paid for by the Home Army, receiving numerous opportunities for learning and knowledge paid for by the Home Army and his parents. He used the opportunity to take up a more hands on profession than his parents, finding paperwork to be tedious and dull.
The fires of the forge proved to be a lure that Vladimir could not resist, training as an apprentice to become a blacksmith. He trained along the smiths of the Home Army, helping to forge weapons and armor for the soldiers, and learning how to repair equipment when it became damaged. Vladimir had a talent for blacksmithing, and he quickly grew beyond the meager tasks he was assigned within the Home Army and he began to seek out new opportunities. Rumors and stories eventually made their way to him from the Sypi Confederacy about an entire tribe with artisans who would spend their lives creating masterwork weaponry. He packed up his things, collected an early pension, saying goodbye to his parents and headed west.
Entering the Sypi Confederacy after the civil war had ended proved more difficult than anticipated, and Vladmir spent nearly a year attempting to find a suitable crossing. He ended up traveling alongside the Sypi River itself, only to be caught up in a giant raid. He was captured briefly by a hill giant, and nearly became its lunch, when he was rescued by a River Watch patrol. He fell in love with one of his rescuers, following her back to Southwatch Keep. When he arrived, he asked to join the River Watch, showing his capabilities for blacksmithing and repair. The relationship that bloomed drove his life, and in addition to acting as an armorer, he soon began joining his love on patrols.
Although combat was new to Vladimir, he proved as talented as a leader as he was a blacksmith, and rose to a position of respect. He was promoted to the rank of Commander in 1038, shortly after marrying his love. There have been some tension as he has become his wife's commander, but he has managed to lead the garrison of Southwatch Keep honorably over the past few years.
