William Lampshire

Greater Hierarch William Lampshire

William Lampshire is from a long-established noble family within the Fruitlands. He renounced his family titles and inheritance and as a teenager swore loyalty to the Church of the One Sun. He dedicated his life towards the study of religion and enhancing his abilities as a cleric of the faith. He mastered simple casting and abilities quite quickly, and was tapped to be a travelling cleric throughout the Jakonian Empire, healing those in need and providing services to the faithful of the Church. Through these meetings and adventures within the borders of the Empire, William made a number of close contacts and friends, as well as expanding his former network from his noble household. Lampshire proved adept at playing the political game both within the Church and among the politicians who found themselves closely intertwined with it. He was only 30 years old when he was finally elevated to the position of Hierarch of Hernando. 
Once sitting upon the Council of Hierarchs, Lampshire abandoned his studies of clerical magical and instead focused upon his political maneuverings. He became a regular within the Jakonian Imperial Court, and visited with the heirs of the old emperor, providing sage advice and support in their education. As the head of the education of the imperial heirs, he was well placed to nurture their friendship and respect over the span of decades. In playing such a long game, he was well placed to become a close and personal friend of the past two emperors. Through these political connections, he was able to secure the support of the rest of the Council of Hierarchs and when the most recent vote occurred in 1033, he was the obvious choice of successor. 
As the Greater Heirarch, Lampshire has been focused upon consolidation rather than expansions. After the disasters under his predecessor in the Sypi Confederacy and the Free City of Riveraineville, the Church has needed a period of stability. Lampshire has been deft at negotiating Imperial support in the correct places, but his primary mission has been preserving Church institutions in the Kingdoms of Losana and Bamard, which have recently been coming under threat of local unrest and raids from the Confederacy. He has also reigned in xenophobia among the clergy, and especially placed restrictions upon the Fellowship of the Palm. While this has not made him friends with the traditionalists within the Church, he has done his part to preserve order throughout the Jakonian Empire.
